I have no idea what PBS is :p Mine watches Nick Jr with his older sister, things like Dora, Fireman Sam... He LOVES all types of emergency vehicles (Or 'Tuta' as he calls them because of the sirene :p).
PBS is public broadcast station- in Delaware New Jersey and some parts of pa its on channel 12. They focus on education, culture and science mostly. I was practically raised on pbs. Till I found the library (and developed a jones for Kung fu theatre)

So many good books you can read him to get him interested.. When I was a kid, loved "where the wild things are","stone soup","the 500 hats of Bartholomew cubbins" and so many more..of course, being that young he would likely enjoy a lot of the Dr Seuss books too..kids love the repetitive syntax for some reason,I sure did..
Dr Seuss is great for new to reading kids.. I think the whole atmosphere of those stories made it fun to try to understand new things- even the grown up reading is bound to say a few words that They will correct their pronunciation on, teaching kids it's ok to make errors and to sound the words out. Because so much of it is only in the dr's imagination many of the words are as new to mom or dad as ALL the words are to them. And of course it's just silly and fun and the repeating it over and over let's them start to "read" it for themselves after a while, while you read it to them. And that shared reading time is a big gift. My youngest daughter is now thirteen, blue haired and "punk as f()%k" as we used to say. She rolls her eyes at most of what passes my lips, but once in a while a shared Seuss rhyme or a comment about the owls of gahool, or Taren wanderer and faithful Gurgi, or mr toad, or even "precious" can still get a smile. In a time when the internet connection on the phone is her primary interface with the world, it's nice to have that. And though she reads less than me and she's not into the same stuff anymore she does read. Well.. she makes me buy her books when we make our twice monthly trips to the bookstore, anyway..i assume she reads them.lol

Even shorter than that. I think it was a passing mention of them as 'Two boys who were very far from Garlan', or something like that, and I'm 99% sure it was in Wolves. Dang, Bev Vincent would know for sure.
Wait, was this maybe in the part at the end of Roland's tale? When someone, jake or Eddie I think, asked what happened to sheemie after Roland and his friends left mejis?

Dear Everyone, Hi there, thanks for being there and reading this. I'm so lonely and you make it all better. I wanted to make a few comments about The Eyes of the Dragon. To my astonishment, I swallowed it whole in one sitting. It was like Patricia McKillip, The Forgotton Beasts of Eld. Each note struck true and held me as a happy harp harmonizing. It was like icecreamcottoncandy and looking back (spoiler!!!!) all I know is that someone wove his napkin threads on a dollhouse loom and escaped a Rapunzel tower. Magnificent. I always intended to reread it, but each time I check my clock it says not yet. That's how I grew up, checking my clock for which book it was time to reread. I was alone a lot, and Mom took me to the library each week, and as the years passed we payed more and more fines, but still the enjoyment went on. I thought "Stephen did this? Stephen did this?" And then I went and read "The Long Walk" and I thought sadly "maybe he gets moods"-- sorry wrong thread. But there seemed to be absolutely nothing wrong at all with the Eyes of the Dragon-- nothing wrong with it anywhere! What a nice shock. *Love*
I'm sorry to hear that you are lonely, I spent a lot of time that way as a child as well and books, and the other people who loved them, got me through a lot of the endless minutes that composed those years. I hope you reach out, to myself, and/or others here when we can offer support or just to listen. I'm not on a lot, but I come when I can. I've only been here a little while but it feels like a family and I suspect there are lots of folks here who get it. I further suspect many would be glad to reach out and connect.

PBS is the Public Broadcast System. It's funded -- partially -- by all of us. Though that amount has slowed to a trickle. Certain members of our government want to kill it... but that's a discussion for Hot Topics.

It is also my husband's employer. He works at the Seattle station, KCTS. We are hoping that he can get through four more years without it being shut down, until he can retire.

They have been for years. They have got themselves on the Boards of major PBS stations. WGN, WTBS and KCTS and many more have Board members who are actively trying to kill the stations. Since a certain orange person stated yesterday that he is getting rid of the National Endowment for the Arts, the process will undoubtedly speed up. I just hope we can make it the 4 years...

It's scary what's happening to television programs. NWCN (Northwest Cable News) doesn't even broadcast anymore. What the heck happened there? There was no inkling that they were just going to stop broadcasting anywhere in the news. I was stunned when I found out that they were gone.

NWCN was a non-paying entity for KING. They were losing money on it so it went bye-bye. :(

Good luck Tery - has he been there a long time?
