Hello,

I have a collection of random thoughts that I would like to make into a novel or script. I am afraid if I release these thoughts people will think I am a crazy person. Any advice from people that have dealt with this in their life?

Thanks,

J
Who cares what other people think. As long as you don't act out any 'crazy thoughts' in real life, just as a story in a novel, do what you want. Life is too short to worry about muppets.

Great quote from William S. Burroughs that is relevant here:
"Nothing is true, everything is permitted."
That's how you should approach writing. It's the most personal thing you can do and you're in charge of the rules.

I'm gonna go ahead and say, Hell yeah, write whatever off-the-wall craziness you can dream up--damn the torpedos, full speed ahead.

But, having said that--beware. There are indeed those who would try to judge a writer's sanity and/or morality by their style or subject matter. We live in creatively suppressed times, full of amateur psychologists who view novels as keys to unlock a writer's psyche. Dear lord, you wrote that? You must be one sick individual! Uh, no...I'd be a sicko if I couldn't write away my demons.

But, you know, screw em. Hold yer head high, and spin that twisted prose!

I've found that if you call yourself a writer and the voices in your head "characters", no one bats an eyelid. Go around saying things like "I can't stop the voices! They're in my head, all the time!" and people tend to get a bit...twitchy.
But there you go: Are all fiction writers at least halfway 'round the twist, with horror writers being the nuttiest of all? Discuss.
