Blaze and Joyland were two others that pulled at my heart strings. Stephen King has always made me think of good times, though. He can make me laugh like a madman. He writes about death, yes, but more often than not I'm thinking of his optimism and patriotism. He's documented rural Americana (baseball, small town hubbub, academia, beer and rock music) like no other writer. His books are packed with emotion and, similar to Grace Metalious' Peyton Place, reflect the world in which I grew up.
...exactly!....these are the kind of folks that populate MY little burg....the names and accents are different-but we all share a common bond, reality & fiction, of what makes us tick-the simple things, both good and evil that makes us what we are.....

I'm not a real emotional person; I don't cry easily or often. Thanks a bunch Steve. :angry_002:

I'm a little more than halfway through The Dark Tower and

Jake just got killed. I'd made the mistake of reading a thread here in which the posting member didn't use spoiler tags and told me Eddie was going to die, and fortunately that was only about 30 pages before that happened. I was so not prepared for Jake to get killed, particularly HOW he got killed. And then? After Roland buries him? Oh, forget about it!! I'm a blubbering mess.

Am I the only sap who cried at this point?

I meant to add that there are spoilers in the title of this thread. Oops.
Heck yeah. Mr. King has regularly made me cry for years. JOYLAND rated one of the hardest cries, and totally unexpected.

Only at the last page.

Seeing how his quest started and what Roland is I was prepared for even more heartbreak than we got.
I was not expecting the open ended nature of the ending and the invitation it brings though.

It was a great relief.

The last book made me cry when Jake died. I actually set the book down for a couple of days when the narrator said he'd die. Because I was told in advance I got upset before I should have. I found that darn narrator that started coming out and saying when they'd die, killed the story for me. It made me read on with a feeling of dread. I would have preferred to just read it without knowing. Even Sheemie! He just mentions it nonchalantly and I am like, you have got to be kidding me. I hate you narrator! Definitely helped make a lot of things anti-climatic for me, in the book.

I cried when
he killed off Jake for the last time.
The book changed for me after that. I was less invested in the story. For part of me it was just too much and I checked out. I put the book down a lot more after that. It became a long read.

Hid the spoiler again ;) - Mod.

No you aren't. Eddie made me throw the book on the floor and cry for 10 solid minutes. I was angry and upset. It was hard to continue, but I'm glad I did.

I was completely ripped to pieces when...

Eddie died.
It broke my very heart... and then...

every loss thereafter just kept pounding what was left of me into the dirt.

I think I probably called Stephen every name under the sun during this journey. It's possible I even made a few up.
The points that killed me too.
