I have two students who have accidentally called me Mom. One high school young man came into the classroom coming straight to me and said, "Mom..." The other students sort of chuckled and he said, "Well, I ask Ms. questions like I want my Mom to give me answers. " Awwwww...

danie Hola! Have your students ever called you mom?
Just now seeing this, Sigs. I don't always get notifications when I'm tagged for some reason. In 30 years of teaching, I have been called Mom many times, and usually it's when the student is coming up to me to personally ask me a question or tell me something. First thing out of their mouths..."Mom, can I....?" and I always say, "Yes, son, (or daughter)." When I first started teaching in 1987, one boy called me Grandma--I was only 24, so we got a big laugh out of that.

Another mistake that happens much more often, is they kids will call me another teacher's name..."Mrs. White,...may I...?" and don't even realize it until I say, "Yes, Ralph, you may." They look at me, puzzled, and I say, "Oh, I thought we were calling each other the wrong names today." :)

Wait. You've been teaching for 30 years?! You started teaching when you were 5 years old?

Yes, the students have questions or need help and they come to me and call me Mom. They don't seem to get too, embarrassed. When they need information or help whom do they approach? Mom, of course.

(You're part vampire, right? You don't age like regular humans? :love_heart:)

Sssshhhhh! Now everyone will know! Seriously, I do stay out of the sun, and have since I was in my early 20s. I think that helps control the wrinkling a bit! But thank you. You're sweet.

Did you see I edited my post above? Do the kids ever call you another teacher's name?

No, no one has called me by another teacher/TA name. (Although they sometimes mutter other names under their breath. Ha!)

If you get the chance to watch Angelitos Negroes, I strongly recommend it. Get tissues, though. Lots of tissues.

It's not on Netflix. Where did you watch it?

I first saw it at a theater when I was a little, little kid. The male star was Pedro Infante. (My Daddy was a huge fan of Pedro Infante. He was a extraordinary singer. Daddy left me all his vinyl LP's.) It can be a challenging film to watch. The old-school elitism, classicism, sex with the *help* and racism. *sigh*

The last time I watched it , it was on YouTube. Black and white 1948 version. You might have trouble with the accents. Mexican, Cubano mix.
