I picked up Skeleton Crew to refresh my memory about The Mist - I couldn't get into the show at all. And I ended up reading a few others, and right now I'm reading The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet. I love that story so much. It's always been a favorite - speaking of descents into madness.

I'm trying to think of King stories and novels set in the summer. Do you recall any? I thought The Raft was, but no - it was cold. Maybe Mrs. Todd's Shortcut?

80sFan I have an ARC of The Given Day - I'm ashamed to say I never read it. Time got away from me and I never picked it up. I absolutely loved and could not put down Shutter Island by Lehane. Hope it gets better - I'm counting on your opinion to tell me if I should read it now.
Drunken Fireworks, big sections of Dolores Claiborne, Joyland, The Body... those are the first ones I thought of :)

Summer novels: Cujo, The Tommyknockers, and Joyland.

Don't let me forget to update when I finish...it's a long book, so may take 'til the end of the week.

Cujo is set in the summer, isn't it?

Finished Colonel Butlers Wolf by Anthony Price. As usual, re Price, it is really good. Ambler, Deighton, Forsyth, Le Carre and the rest can go bury themselves. When it comes to intelligent Spystories they are beginners compared to Price. True, it is a world that does not exist anymore (i mean KGB and the fact of the Wall and the Sovjet Union) but they were written during the 70,ties and 80,ties. Usually some interesting history mixed up in it but never stands in the way of the story. Just a couple were translated to swedish (5 i think) so i have slowly started to get the rest in pocket in english through Amazon. One of the best ideas i've had in a long time!! Cheap and really good the majority of them.

I'm reading The Round House by Louise Erdrich. It's the second in a loose trilogy. I hate that I read them out of order (third, first, second) but now that I am halfway through this one I am fully appreciating what an amazing body of work she has created with this trilogy.
I loved The Round House.

Did you read A Plague of Doves or LaRose?
No, but I want to read it. I read half of Love Medicine but got distracted with other new releases. I discovered her through Amazon because of my interest in Jim Harrison's books. Was A Plague of Doves one of her better books? I seem to remember her winning awards and acclaim for that one.

It's very good. It did win awards but I don't remember which. Now that I am almost done with The Round House, all 3 books taken as a whole history of the family are wonderful.

Thanks, friends! I haven't read Cujo yet - I own it (thank you king family fan !) but still haven't read it. I've read Joyland - loved it and wish there would be a movie! Read and enjoyed Dolores, IT, and Drunken Fireworks and The Body, but not The Tommyknockers - just never finished it.

I love Erdrich! I saw an interview with her when Master Butchers Singing Club came out and was intrigued enough to read it - I loved it. I've found two of her books in thrift stores: The Painted Drum and Four Souls - I haven' read them yet. She often has a story in the Best American Short Stories collection - and she edited a volume back in the 90s. She's pretty awesome.

So i like to read when i eat at times, which necessitated a paperback, because reading s hardcover is damn hard one handed, so i'm juggling bag of bones in addition to match up. First time through, and as usual, king is great, looking forward to finishing
Me too! I'm a spine cracker and food splatterer though. Hard covers you can lay open flat if you break them. Now that I'm thinking of it, I'm certain Bag of Bones is a summer book. Is it? My memory is not reliable.
