Wow, was just rereading this, what a tear-jerker.

Hope this doesn’t sound insensitive, but every year we have to do 9/11 stuff on the day in my classes (sort of mandatory). I don't like it. It is "never forget" type stuff for kids that have no connection to the event. It is the same trying to explain what it was like in 4th grade and watch the Challenger blew up, or my teachers explaining the JFK assassination. They get it was a bad thing and there is some empathy but not that connection.

I think I might do this story this year on 9/11, at least I think it could help with why the pain is still left here lingering.

...good choice, and given the climate of these times, one that is quite relatable...

TTTLB goes to places that you don't want to be - file under unforgettable alongside Rainy Season ( Nightmares and Dreamscapes), Grey Matter (Night Shift), The Mangler (Night Shift), The Mist (Skeleton Crew) and The Cat from Hell (Just After Sunset).

Such is the power of SK's short stories - we don't get an exposition (long or short) to ease us into the story.
Ho no - he picks us up and hurls us into the middle of someone else's reality.
And we remember that reality.
For keeps.
