I like to read books then watch the movie. A lot of Stephen King's books have been made into movies like most books. What I'm asking what do you think is scarier the books or the movies because they are never the same.
I think the books are always better then the movies.

I agree that SK's books are better than the movies, although to me, the movies are scarier. I can read something and compartmentalize it in a way that doesn't frighten me. To see it on screen (blood, gore, violence, etc.) - well, that image stays with me.

And I'm the opposite. I can imagine so much worse than anyone can film.

But I agree, King's books are always better than the movies...even the good movies. Lol

...welcome and gooooood dog!.....my imagination is much better in the theatre of my own mind...though I also enjoy an adaptation that hits the main points....

i think this applies to most books, not just stephen king ones. there are good adaptations, but it's a rare adaptation that surpasses the source.

When I'm reading the book, I can visualize some scary stuff, but I can also kind of put the images "away" when I need to.
With movies, there are sometimes images so scary that I can't get them out of my head if I try (especially if I try).

I prefer the books by far, first off. Then, I think what I like almost as much is when the movie adaptations take the book, which was designed to work as a piece of writing, and change it so that the movie is a different thing, inspired by the original work, but designed to work as a visual work. Think the Kubrick version of The Shining. So I prefer them when they're, whilst the same idea and basis, two different things that can't really be compared.

The book because in a lot of his movies they cut out a lot of the shocking, weird, and disgusting stuff that makes you go "wait, did I just read that". That stuff is usually cut from movies because they are to inappropriate for airing on TV.
