I guess Capaldi was kinda sorta recycled. I absolutely loved Capaldi in Children of Earth (third season of Torchwood). I was thrilled when I first learned Capaldi would become the next Doctor. I was disappointed when the writers gave his regeneration quirks I didn't much care for - like his tendency to give long insightful speeches.

Another thing I didn't like about Capaldi's Doctor - he wasn't the star of the show, Clara was, and I'm not a big Clara fan sooooooo...

I loved Deep Breath. Maybe because it was by a filmdirector, Ben Wheatley, it felt a bit more like a movie to me - the tempo is more like that of a movie than the more rushed feel tv often has. And it featured the Paternoster Gang again, with Jenny being more prominent and talkative than usual.

I didn't feel Clara overwhelmed Capaldi's Doctor. You could say the same about Rose or any of the companions. I think in Doctor Who the Doctor and his companions are always equally the star.

Watching the second Doctor, Patrick Toughton. Unfortunately a lot were destroyed, so I'm watching remakes with the audio.

I think the writers were struggling at first. Nothing really seemed very original. Then I saw The Faceless Ones. I hope it continues like this.

I think of Troughton the most were destroyed, even more than of Hartnell. It's great that they constantly get found back too at television stations all over the world.
It would be great if the Classic Series came to Netflix - here it isn't yet. Is it anywhere?
The dvd's are fantastic in terms of extra's, but it's a lot to get them all. In the end I might though. There's a lot but it's still reasonably overseeable.

Season 12, the first to star Tom Baker is coming to blu-ray

Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 12 coming to Blu-ray boxset | Articles | Doctor Who

I wonder how it will look on blu-ray and if it will be worth buying it (again).
On the dvd's it varies quite strongly, some look much better than others. As I understand mostly the indoor scenes were shot on tape and the outdoor scenes on film. In BBC programmes from the seventies you can see big differences between interior and exterior scenes, I always noticed it strongest with Fawlty Towers. I think the reason is the difference between tape and film.
Still some tape probably was conserved better than other tape, or perhaps the quality of the cameras themselves varied over the years, because some of the dvd's look much better than others.

I have all the Tom Baker stories on dvd, except for two, and one is included on this: Revenge of the Cyberman. There are also some new extras, although the dvd's usually have at least around two hours of extras, and at least one and often two commentaries on top of that.

Here's some news about the new series. The first episode will be called 'The Woman in Blue', and is written by new showrunner Chris Chibnall. It wil be an extra long one, which I think is great when you introduce a new doctor - Deep Breath is still one of my favourites of Capaldi (also because it has the Paternoster Gang).

I wonder though if all the episodes will be longer, because there are fewer than usual. There are 10, while usually there have been 12 to 14.

Apparently the new season will have NONE of the usual monsters and aliens. So, no Daleks or Cybermen or Master.
I would have thought with taking the risk of changing the Doctor's gender they would leave everything else as regular as possible, but clearly it will be an overall big change. It will be 10 standalone stories, plus, most likely a Christmas episode. The Chistmas epsode is not fully confirmed by new showrunner Chris Chibnall, but strongly hinted at; so not ALL traditions are gone at least.

Also the companions will be called 'friends' rather. Here's a pic of the new cast:

It will be interesting. What they have done mostly since the show returned in 2005 is either feature the Daleks or the Cybermen often at the start or closing of a season. I can never have enough of Daleks especially myself, but, yeah, I've sometimes noticed from reactions of people watching it with me, that people sometimes get tired of them: 'Oh no, next week the Daleks AGAIN!'
It's amazing anyway in how many ways they have featured them over the years and managed to always come up with new stories (and designs) for them.

I wonder how Doctor Who it will feel if the Daleks stay away for a while, they're such a big part of the show and always have been (they appear as soon as the second serial). There was really a Dalek-mania in the sixties and seventies. They feature in endless amount of merchandise (I've got one myself, bought on a trip to London). And they also feature in the two cinematic films of Doctor Who with Peter Cushing.

Dana Jean at the very end of the video- after the promo, it say Doctor Who and then the next shot, to the left is the circle and WHO. That is the graphic on TV ads, not Doctor Who.

Aaaaah. Well, now the feminist in me comes out. Those nice sharp V's of the W will soon be rounded off with nipples . We can't call a female Doctor Who?

It looks to me more like the circle with Who in it, is a link to the official Youtube page of Doctor Who:

Doctor Who

It's kind of like an avatar or profile pic. Because Doctor Who may be too much to fit in. Like it says G on my avatar here, not Gerald.

Thank you. I wonder if it is copyright issue with the "old" Doctor Who logo, being this is a whole new group of actors as well as writers- a compete change in direction??

I don't think copyright has to do with it, because the series is always made by the BBC. They change everything usually: there will be most likely a new title sequence, a new arrangement of the theme tune, a new Tardis etc.
