Very Red Rose like.

According to an article I read, there are 3 versions of this story and SK says in his notes the original was written in the 70s and is very different from this one. Did Red Rose come after this or before?
The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer- My Life at Rose Red was published 2001. Followed by the mini series Rose Red in 2002.

"It Grows On You" is a short story by American writer Stephen King, originally published in Marshroots, volume 3, no. 1, Fall 1973, later revised and published in August 1982 in Whispers, and again revised for the 1993 short story collection Nightmares & Dreamscapes. "It Grows on You" was nominated for the 1983 Locus Award for Best Short Story.[1]

It does remind me of Rose Red. But Burnt Offerings is a good comparison, too. I also thought of 'Salem's Lot when Joe Newall hung himself.

This one is not a favorite for me, either. There are some great lines, like the one about the old posters in the store window being both faded and toasted. I think the last page or so, with Gary Paulson takes away from the rest of the story. It seems out of place.

Looking forward to Chattery Teeth. That one I do remember liking.

Some great descriptive writing in this. You can smell, see and feel the store and the old men. When I finished it I had two thoughts:

1. The wings of the house = deaths. Everyone who had contact with Newall is represented by an addition to the house. What that is supposed to mean, I have no idea.

2. I thought of the Winchester "Mystery House." Sarah Winchester built her house for the spirits of people killed by the rifles her husband's company made. Not precisely the same but enough to make me think of it.

Anyway, there's some brilliant examples of why SK is one of the best writers ever in this story. But it's just good, no great. IMO.

Just a reminder that we will discuss Chattery Teeth at 8pm on Wednesday

That's 8pm Eastern time (I forget that my time zone is not the only one)

Were we doing these at 8 central time? Maybe 9 Eastern time is better. I'm changing my mind unless someone tells me different (I'm leaving all this in so you can see how my mind works ;-D)
