I may be late to the party, but after a 2nd go at this novel, I noticed a discrepancy. When Mike meets Mattie on the town common (with McDonald's) I think it's only a day or two after his encounter with Max and Rogette on the Street. If so, wouldn't he have wounds that Mattie couldn't help but notice?

I'll keep that in mind on my next re-read. Lent my book out after my initial read when it first came out and never got it back. It's okay though, I'm stalking the apartment and have hired some expensive thugs!
They'll never take me alive!

I still have my copy of Bag of Bones - maybe you can find a replacement at Value Village? I'll keep an eye out for you if I venture out into the frigid cold!

Hi Neesy! Happy New Year! I'm not worried about the lost book. Things have a way of falling into my lap over time. I lost a jackknife when I was 7 years old and, 43 years later, while in the same area, I never found it!

Happy New Year to you and your wife - hope Joyce's health is good now :cheerful:

I ask it here, won`t start a new Thread.

One Day Michael is remembering a Scene, when Joe rammed a Pine with the Jeep.
She was swearing and then she said something and Mike got the Giggles.

In German it was "Scheiß die Wand an" but what did she say in the Original Version ?

Hi there! - I had to go start reading my copy of this book. Thanks to that I am now half way through (having read it previously a few years back). I found the answer to your question but I will have to put it in a spoiler:

I began walking again. I passed the big pine that Jo had once banged into in our Jeep, trying to back up the driveway. How she had sworn! Like a sailor! I had managed to keep a straight face until she got to "F*ck a duck,"and then I'd lost it, leaning against the side of the Jeep with the heels of my hands pressed against my temples, howling until tears rolled down my cheeks, and Jo glaring hot blue sparks at me the whole time.

This expression is hard to explain - maybe people say it because it rhymes? I can't think of any reason why it is said, other than that.

It's just slang.

I actually made reference to this book yesterday when I was on my Cognitive Behaviour Therapy course. One guy mentioned that he spends too much time watching TV and that the stupid commercials bothered him.

I asked "Is there a mute button on your remote?" not because I was trying to be facetious but just curious, as we often forget it is there.

Then told the class I was reading a book by Stephen King called Bag of Bones and in that book he mentions that the mute button must surely be the greatest invention ever in terms of TV (or words to that effect).

I've been using that mute button on the remote a lot more now and it does help me to stay calmer.

I really think I'd hurt something if I didn't have a mute button. It seems like every ad screams at us. Or is that just me? :dispirited:

Nope, same here.

The Program you are watching is hard to understand but when the Commercials start.... *trumpet of the last Judgment*

No - it is not just you - they blare the sound and the voices are intentionally annoying (I think) plus they will repeat the same commercial, separated by 30 seconds of a different commercial :m_run:
