I've been pleasantly surprised by Mr. M. If memory serves, I read an excerpt from it at the end of another SK novel, and was not really impressed. But that first chapter dealt with only the beginning homicide, which was a bit of a throwaway, and the book never really got rolling until much later. I get a bit of a Peter Straub "Koko" vibe here. I'm loving the cat & mouse between retired detective Hodges and the self grandiose yet weak-kneed psychopath Brady Hartsfield. Remember Mrs. Trelawney and the key? Man it has me perplexed. It's my "at work" book, so I'm not mowing thru the chapters at a shocking pace. Knowing SK, there is a simple explanation. But damned if I can figure it out! But I'm loving the read so far. It's a joy to find an SK novel you missed, but then it just hooks you. Good! I hope I've missed a lot more.

Half-way thru, and I'm just loving it. It only gets better. So far! :Oo: I love the characters. No, not Mr. M so much. I'm torn on Olivia. I was a bit PO'ed at how Hodges seemed to believe she deserved a measure of guilt. How come? A Mercedes is not a weapon, it's a damn car! She would have been no more accountable than if she had inexpertly chained up a motor-scooter! I now see the public & private hatred of her was something that "moved the plot". But I still don't like it.

I'm a little surprised the novel doesn't get more discussion. At this point, I haven't enjoyed a "modern" SK novel this much since 'Duma Key'. How are the other 'Hodges' novels?

I just finished this and "The girl who loved Tom Gordon". Mr. M was better in my opinion. I'm now reading Dreamcatcher as I'm trying my best to stay in order of release. Dreamcatcher is a slow burn for me. I haven't picked it back up in over 2 weeks. Have to get through somehow. I also bought the Mr. Mercedes DVD set but have only watched ep. 1. I'm annoyed by the overly horny neighbor.

Please review Dreamcatcher when you finish willy. I wish I'd followed "date of release", but instead I followed whichever book I managed to get my damn hands on. Horny neighbor?!! Shades of 3's Company. I'm avoiding the Mr. M miniseries like the plague. My brain is still trying to masticate the recently read book.

People here don't seem to get into the nitty gritty like they used to. That and the fact that the board is only online 3 days out of the month might explain the mass exodus this forum is experiencing! I am as always, exaggerating. But that said, where is (fill in you seven favorite lately unseen SK fans) ??? Why ain't I getting called out & smacked down.

I might as well go back to the comics forums!

Was not a fan of the short story. But I love the Adam West pictures.
