I just listened to the audio version of this that came with "Elevation", I really liked hearing it read by SK!

One question, I noticed he pronounces the word for green groceries "produce" as PRAW-duce. Where I live we pronounce it "PRO-duce". Is this a Maine thing, or just a SK thing?
Might be a Maine thing as I thought I said pro-duce but when I listened closer to how I was saying it, it came out sounding somewhere in between pro and praw-duce. :wink2:

Ohh another reason to get the audio book of elevation. Even if I just use it to relax to, god I love his voice. It sounds like a Maine accent thing

Does anyone know if king trainees himself to not use his Maine accent or did it just go away. I am thinking more in terms of his interviewing and stuff like that.
....as often as he's been interviewed and done recordings over the decades, it's not unusual for a "native speaker" to lose that accent edge due to either a conscious choice to homogenize oneself, or just sub-consciously picking up on bland and universal speech sounds to blend in to whatever medium or market you might be heard....

That is what I was thinking he did.

I've never seen this talk King gave above. It is good. I always thought Duma Key came out earlier than 2008. I've heard some people from Maine talk on the radio like that politician named Collins, and some other people and they don't seem to have a very strong regional dialect.

What I've noticed with New Englanders from America from what I've heard when they talk is that I think they pronounce a lot of vowel sounds from the back of the throat. This is different to say, where I come from in Sydney where it was a much more 'nasal' sound coming from like that's why many words are 'shortened' like 'Ow ya goin' mate?'. Whereas a New Englander would say something like: 'Hooow yooour goooing maaate?' KIng doesn't have a very pronounced accent. There's a website I was listening to with accents of people from Maine back eighty years ago, I was listening to this Swedish descent guy from Aroostook, and I could't understand him properly. The English speaking place I've been to where I couldn't understand anyone was in Lancashire in England. I went to this pub in their dialect was so strong I hardly knew what they were talking about. Another thing, everyone looked like they were related.
