Well, I'm one of the ones that has been happy with the last two movies, but my hubby was not a big fan of Last Jedi and he thought Han Solo was better. Like I said it's nice backstory. Give it a go and let me know what you thought.
Definitely will. I loved Rogue One so I'm hoping this back story movie will be just as good. I'm starting to like the back story movies more than the main plot line Star Wars movies...never thought I'd think that...lol

I never understood why people like Rogue 1 so much. Solo has been the worst imo in terms of recent movies, it doesn’t even make sense considering the greater Star Wars lore. I hated Rogue 1 though, it sucked.

It was an interesting addition. The story of how the plans for the original Death Star were obtained was a cool expansion story, imo.

Rogue One tells a very simple story, but it tells it in a rather complicated way. Especially the earlier part of the film is quite hard to follow - I think mainly because of the many new characters. After watching it a couple of times I pretty much got it though. It's interesting that it uses the Whills, which is from the Lucas scripts for the first film, but he didn't use ultimately:

The Journey of the Whills: From Concept to Canon to Rogue One – The Star Wars Report

While overall I like Rogue One, for me K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) is what Jar Jar Binks is to most people. I didn't find him funny ONCE. I never read any complaints about him though, while Jar Jar was absolutely outright hated.

Opinions are like noses. You pick your own but leave mine alone, thanks!

I liked Rogue One and found K-2SO funny albeit passive-aggressive squared. I really loved the Last Jedi. I am interested in the characters and where they are heading. I think it would be quite boring if we all liked or disliked the same things.

Huh. We quite enjoyed Rogue 1. Not enough to buy it or anything. It was an interesting backstory to what sounded like a throwaway reference in the movie. Haven't seen Solo.

To the naysayers of the original Star Wars. Yeah, it was simplistic, even awkward. In simple movie-making standards, Empire was superior.

And I hate to say this, but you had to be there. When Star Wars came out, we had never seen anything like it. Those effects of dogfighting craft, the jump to lightspeed, the lightsabers, the speedster skimming over the desert - you take all that for granted now. But it was a quantum shift for us at the time. We were flat blown away. Up until then, it was models, or photographs of them, moving their stately way across the screen, e.g., 2001 and Star Trek.

And the score. Of course, the score.

In its mediocre writing and reasonable acting way, it begat the stuff we like so much still. There's a reason that Star Wars exists as an enduring franchise on its own. I can sit back and MST3K the original as much as anyone. But I also remember that Grandma and I saw it four times - four times - in the first month that it was out, as we kept dragging along friends to see it too.

It was a movie spectacle the likes of which had not occurred since Hitchcock's Psycho. Like that, it brought a new paradigm to cinema, and the movie world has not been the same since.

I loved The Force Awakens, a film that basically does everything I love about Star Wars and evoked that feeling of seeing it for the first time as a child. It brings that sense of wonder and fun back totally in an amazing way. Although clearly I understand the criticism that it rehashes a lot of things from A New Hope especially. But in this case it didn't matter so much to me, because it was that sense of Star Wars back that was missing often in the prequels.

The Last Jedi on the other hand feels like a mess to me, of half thought out ideas and concepts that don't work for the most part. The worst part of it is probably that what was the major baddie behind the screens in A Force Awakens, Snoke (who looks great and is another great role from Andy Serkis) is killed in such a simple and off-hand manner - it suddenly takes all the tension out of the film, which at that point still has a while to go. It's no doubt meant to surprise and shock the viewer, but Snoke is so new and only just revealed that it doesn't have an effect in that way - it's a character that is killed before you even get to know him a bit. Even Serkis has said that he wished Snoke didn't die.

So we’re watching Star Wars Episode IV: A Nee Hope in English to study it’s use of Archetypes. And not only have over half the kids in my class never seen it, or any Star Wars film, they have the gall to make fun of it, loudly, while the movie was playing!
SACRILEGE!!!!

Honestly, what is wrong with those kids' parents?? I am sad and outraged. Going to go curl up with my vintage stuffed Chewbacca.

BTW, do you have The Power of Myth? I just picked up a digital copy on amazon for $2,99 :)

Bad Times at the El Royale - a really great crime drama/character study. I really don't understand why this didn't make more of a splash at the box office, except perhaps it ran a wee bit long (for a theatrical release maybe). Also, poor Chris Hemsworth really can't catch a break. He really is a terrific actor (watch The Heart of the Sea), but it seems Hollywood or the audience just can't get past his good looks. This dude shouldn't have to rely on Marvel films just to get butts in the theatre.

It was disheartening to say the least, heresy’s of iconic pop culture. Also, the worksheet failed to spell “Darth Vader” correctly even once. “Darth Vadar” it was, sounds like a Chinese knockoff
