Why were Weeds and The Crate never in a short story collection?

I've never read the original stories, but knowing them so well from the movie I would love to read how they originally were.

Why were they never published in any of the short story collections? Was it because of rights issues or because it was felt they were already too overfamiliar because of the movie? I can't imagine they weren't deemed good enough, because then they weren't used for the movie either most likely.

Is there any chance we will see them in a future collection? Sometimes these have older stories too that were used in a movie, like 'Cat From Hell' in 'Just After Sunset'. I hope they will be considered for a possible new collection if there is to be another one.

The inclusion of Cat from Hell in Just After Sunset came as something of a surprise, since King had already stated that he had included all of the older stories he deemed worthy of reprinting in earlier collections. Weeds and The Crate have both been reprinted in recent Shivers anthologies from Cemetery Dance.

I wonder if an author's story is published in a book with other writers or a magazine, does it then totally belong to the publisher of that book/magazine?
A lot of stories in Night Shift were first sold to magazines, but still some years later they were published again in his 'own' collection...

The author retains the rights to republish unless the contract specifies otherwise. There are sometimes limitations on when that may be done, e.g. if the publisher had exclusivity for a certain time, or sometimes it will require the publisher to give approval first, though.

I was wondering how some end up in the collections and others are discarded. Are the ones in Night Shift, Skeleton Crew, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, Everything's Eventual and Just After Sunset personal favourites? Because these two seem to have gone by the wayside.

He said that he didn't even know Cat from Hell wasn't yet in a collection before it proposed for Just after Sunset. Do his editors or agents choose which ones go in the short story collections rather than him?
