I haven't watched the last disc yet with the majority of extras - I watched the other extras along the way with the series itself. Not sure if it's all that interesting, it looks like it's mainly just Lynch and his actors and crew on set, and it's a LOT.

Lynch's mind works on the same artistic, imaginative level that brings us intriguing inexplicable things the likes of what comes flying out the ass of a buick, or gets jammed up in a go-devils grill.........or a horribly, nightmarishly loooooong finger feeling its way out of a drain. you just 'get it' or you dont/cant......or maybe, be able to accept it all... or not. like stan uris.

........my angelo badalamente/julie(?) soundtrack CD got stolen. i miss it..........thank God for youtube & people who share.

Julee Cruise?

Unfortunately she's not a very good live singer. She gives it her all emotionally, but vocally it's just not very good. At least what I saw from more recent performances. Maybe she was better in the past, but I can't find any of that.

But there are no videos of it back then?

In fairness, the songs are in incredibly high and difficult tone ranges. Seems almost impossible to reproduce live. But I was a bit disappointed she wasn't better.
i saw the whole series & heard the soundtrack when it first aired on tv. not long after i bought the music CD through a mail order catalog:"Diversions".
........i thought she was good from what i saw on the show, & heard on the CD

But on the show itself it doesn't have to be actually live of course, it can be manipulated and adjusted to be much better. The same goes for a cd.
I don't know her background though, and whether she actually toured and performed live.
The music itself is beautifully composed of course. It's fairly simple as a composition (the main theme 'Falling' for example), it's just in a very difficult range vocally.

There have been two books officially released that coincided with The Return series, (The Secret History Of Twin Peaks and The Final Dossier) both written by Mark Frost. While I enjoyed them they really didn't give too much insight to the TP world. There is also the official tie-in The Secret Diary Of Laura Palmer, which was released when the first series aired and it gives clues to who Killer Bob is. It's also a very sobering and depressing glimpse at what Laura went through in her short time on earth. There is also the official Autobiography Of Agent Cooper which ends right when he is shot at the cliffhanger in series one. I haven't read any other of the unofficial books out there.
I read a book of fiction by Mark Frost after the original airing of Twin Peaks, as I wanted to check him out. It was a take on Sherlock Holmes. I was held by his story as I usually am when reading Stephen King. It was fantastic!

I think this is especially right, although it goes for art in general and the majority of artists feel that way. He said about one of his films (forgot which one, probably Mulholland Drive): "Every explanation of the film is the right one."

I think what makes his films work is that they are so visually and aurally pleasing. If he leaves out his usual aesthetics, like he did with Inland Empire, it is not nearly as good. I think without the look and feel he gives his films (often a sort of luxurious nightclub kind of feel) not a lot would be left, I wasn't crazy at all about Inland Empire.

Personally for me, we deal so much with the rational in our world and lives, that I find directors and films who deal more with the subconscious enormously freeing and liberating. You can just forget about explanations, whether things truly make sense (and films like that are beyond criticism of such things because of their nature). You can leave your mind at the door and just enjoy the experience.
Inland Empire is my favourite Lynch film. It defies explanation but keeps you glued.

Ah, yes, that book is The List Of Seven and it is a fantastic book! I loved it. There's a sequel called The Sixth Messiah which was also a great read. Great characters throughout the story(s). I wonder if he was going to continue with diminishing numbers in the titles with his next books?

Thanks for the title kingricefan. I will hunt that down in my local library. I'd love to read that again.
Back to Lynch, I once bought a big bag and a one pound bag of David Lynch coffee. Big bag to drink, the other to display. It was good coffee.
Have a fun day, mal

I watched the documentary My Beautiful Broken Brain, with which Lynch was involved. It's about a woman who has a severe stroke and her recovery process. The state she's in she describes as being in a David Lynch movie. She also reads an article with Lynch talking about transcendental meditation, which helps her in coping with her condition. At the end she speaks with him and meets him.
The film is shot to similate the way she experiences the world, especially to the right she can't see well anymore and sees things in a distorted way. Also she can't read and understand speech and words well anymore (aphasia), and experiences things like sound and colour differently.
It's interesting that it's all about the way the brain connects its different functions. For example, to write the visual part of the brain is not needed that much, but to read it is. When those connections are broken you experience the kind of problems she does.
