The dust jacket makes up about 80-90% of the value of a collectible book. Putting a reproduction dust jacket will not increase the value of a book at all. Your best bet would be to do the options above or even try the publisher as a long shot.

Just a note--the presence of that 'authentication" sticker devalues the book somewhat. It's equivalent to having someone's bookplate attached to the book.

That item has been offered for quite some time with no takers. This was discussed on TDT.org where some members made lower offers and were rejected. I think the seller is hoping for a miracle.

Another indication is that on page 159 the header of the page says "Grifter's Game" rather than "The Colorado Kid". See:

If it's not a "special" edition of some sort (very limited print run, signed, etc.) there is no good reason for such a price increase other than greed. (By the way, just because they are asking that much doesn't mean that they'll get it.)

i personally appreciate the resellers. If it weren't for them, I'd have never gotten much of my collection. I understand, to some degree, your feelings, but I also realize that, due to circumstances beyond my control, that I would miss out on a lot.

Scott, do the ones that appear to be first editions have a price on the dust jacket? Most BCE don't, although they are otherwise identical to the true firsts. If they do have a price, you are getting a great deal!
