Dear Marsha: 'I'm so glad we had this time together..........'

Long days and pleasant nights, everyone! Hoping to see you all at "the new place"!

What Are You Reading? Part Deux

Having just finished the exquisitely satisfying If It Bleeds, I'm now starting Water Sleeps, the next-to-last book in Glen Cook's "Black Company" series. Good, gritty military fantasy.

    What did you think?

Just started the title story and loving the book! Technology (and how we use/are used by it) and dancing seem to figure prominently in this collection.

    Current events

Well, I am re-reading it for that very reason...that, and just the fact that it's my favorite King book. Some might question why I'd want to read such a shelf-bender multiple times, but I always get something new out of each reading. For example, I've picked up a new word from the Judge...

    11-22-63 mini series

I thought it was a decent adaptation, though I wish they had gone into a bit more detail on the repercussions of Jake's actions.

Dear Marsha: 'I'm so glad we had this time together..........'

Though I have not posted very prolifically, I have enjoyed my time here and am sad to see it drawing to a close. However, there are other boards than this, and I hope to see many of you again. Now, if I wanted to madly speculate that sai King will reveal which secret board account he's been...

    Shame on Stephen King...

That's probably the best summary of it all. The adaptations of sai King's work are hit-and-miss, and as I haven't seen them all yet I can't judge fairly. As for 11/22/63...I started it last night, and plan to continue over the weekend. So far, so good.

    Coronavirus v.2

Our children's librarian made some lovely masks for us all to wear when we do, eventually, start interacting with patrons again. She's a talented young lady and quite "crafty" in that regard. Right now we're only allowing patrons to return their items in our book drop where they are sanitized...

    Your favorite SK scene type?

So I am revisiting the Kingverse in The Stand, and it came to me over the weekend that one of the many, many many reasons I keep returning to his “long tale of dark Christianity” are certain scenes. The unraveling of American society is one, of course, and then I realized how much I enjoy the...

    The big bad word

Ha! That one is a safe bet...however, I probably should re-read EOTD myself, it's been decades. And welcome, new ka-tet member! Long days, pleasant nights!

What Are You Reading? Part Deux

At the moment I'm reading Strange Weather by Joe Hill, who I privately think of as "Sai King the Younger". I'll be very public with my thoughts, though; the apple does not fall far from the tree, and the young man has a definitive talent, especially where characterization is concerned.

    So, who is re-reading?

No? Don't like it, or does it hit too close to home?

    So, who is re-reading?

The Stand seems a shoe-in for reading material during this extraordinary time, doesn't it? The last time I read it was a couple of years ago, and that was the original 1978 version, which I'd sought out with some difficulty in my library's statewide system. But now the libraries are shut down...

    Coronavirus

I trust you're all staying safe and healthy, fellow CR's. Our nice new library can't open for at least another couple of weeks, possibly longer depending on how things fall. We are still working, and I guess the silver lining is that we're using the extra time to prepare for patron traffic...

What Did You Do Today? What are you doing today? v.2.0

The library I work at is preparing to move from our old building into a brand-new one, so today I was tasked with packing up the board games, cleaning supplies, and coffee stuff. Quite a few patrons have been checking out loads of books to "get through the drought" while we're closed for the...

Scenes in the novel that should have been in the movie

They absolutely should have included this. Makes me want to put the bang-shang-a-lang on 'em! :D

    Coronavirus

...and then, it seems, some of us are a bit confused about the nature of the outbreak: Corona virus? Get a twelve-pack!!!

    Coronavirus

I tend to stick to NPR for my news, so I am spared the "hype" as they focus on calmly delivering the facts. I suspect one reason this thing has spread so far is because we're in the heart of cold and flu season; it might have taken quite some time for someone to realize what was happening. On...

    Ka-Tet Cantina

Ah, so that's what that's about. I saw this referenced on another message board, so I headed over here to get the real story. I wonder how many people jumping on his case are aware of how thoroughly he's celebrated diversity himself in how own works, and has been doing so for decades. Long...

    New The Stand movie.

From what I'm hearing about some of the casting choices, a lot of things are going to be omitted. And I am not pleased about that happy crappy.
