Haunted - Chuck Palahniuk. I haven't read it in about ten years but it was my favourite Palahniuk book for a long time. I gave up on Chuck a few years ago, his new stuff is uniformly awful but there's some absolute gold in his back catalogue
This is my first time reading Dreamcatcher and boy... it pains me to say it but I don't know if I'm going to be able to finish it. I've taken a break and gone back to it twice and I'm still only half way through. That's a bad sign on its own - when I'm reading something I love I absolutely...
Thank you for all the suggestions! I ended up going with Duma Key. Here's her engrossed in it at the airport as we were waiting to fly out to Amsterdam. Unfortunately I couldn't find my own copy and my local bookshop didn't have it so it's kindle only (although it did mean a walk around the...
It's the descriptive language and imagery in Duma Key that makes it stand out for me. The sound of the waves, the way the shells rattle under the house. I got so immersed in it that I started playing ocean wave sounds on Spotify when I sat down to read the book ;-D
Oh I loved Joyland so much. So beautifully written. Probably my second favorite after Duma Key, but I thought for the first one, I should pick one with a supernatural story. It's what she'll be expecting.
Hello all :)
My wife, who has never read a Stephen King book, has agreed to read one of his books on my recommendation. I doubt she'll ever become a Constant Reader, but I would love to get her hooked and bring her over to the dark side ;-D:bat: . The problem is, trying to pick just one out...
It was a favourite when I was at college, me and my four housemates would spend a couple of evenings every week, how shall I put this, "in the company of our friend Mary-Jane" and we'd sit around and watch a bunch of silly movies ;-D that was near 20 years ago though and I haven't seen it...
According to Wikipedia it was published as an annex in the novel Blaze, which I read last year so that's probably where I saw it. I knew I read it somewhere!
Memory (Stephen King) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I don't really know why but every Stephen King book I read I picture the main character as the guy who played the adult Bill Denborough in IT.
Anyway I just finished this book for the first time and wow! What a fantastic book. Straight up there as one of my favourite ever King novels. I feel...
Maybe I did and just can't remember. I thought it was perhaps a short story that was later rewritten and incorporated into a full novel. Maybe I'm just going crazy :O_O:
I just started reading this book and I swear I've never read it before but the first few chapters seem so familiar. The accident with the crane, the dying dog. Is this a call back to an earlier book?
I spotted a signed hardcover copy of IT in a local bookshop window recently, I went in and enquired about it but it was $450! I wanted it, but I also like being married ;-D
I've recently started "Station Eleven" by Emily St. John Mandel. It's a novel set in a world where a flu pandemic has wiped out most of civilisation. I'm also working through "Emma" by Jane Austen. I'm really struggling with it though. The 200 year old style of writing is understandably very...
I'm halfway through my honeymoon now, currently in the Cote D'Azur in France. Haven't done any reading yet! Ha ha ha. But have visited both Italy and Monaco and flying to Switzerland on Monday. What a beautiful part of the world. (My wife isn't bad either ;) )
It's 2am in Scotland. In 36 hours I'm marrying my best friend. I've spent the last few days at my future in-laws house in the beautiful Scottish countryside, enjoying their hospitality and putting the finishing touches to our wedding. I've spent most of this evening drinking red wine in my...
I finally made a start on The Dark Tower, finished off The Gunslinger and excited to find out what happens next . Now about 40% through 'Salems Lot, one of the older King books I never got round to reading. There's such a different feel to these old books than his more recent books. Thoroughly...
