    Tim Burton.

The last great one of his that comes to mind is "Big Fish." I loved that movie. "Corpse Bride" was pretty good too. I agree completely though. His Wonderland film was horrible and "Dumbo" does not seem promising. Too much CGI lately and too little of the practical effects that made his...

    Pretty bleak

I loved this gruesome little tale. I agree that it felt like a missing story from "Night Shift." The story is so strong because so much is unexplained. We understand the terrifying consequences of entering the grass by the end of the story, and "that's all folks."

Discussion(SPOILERS) -after you have read the book

I enjoyed the story but felt the mystery of the box was not fully explored. There are so many unanswered questions.

Brief Insomnia Review - Spoiler Free

Yea, that seems to be the general consensus. There are parts I liked and parts I didn't. I loved the scene where Ralph asked Clotho and Lachesis if they shook hands. I really likes those two characters a lot. And I loved the ending. The whole Epilogue was masterful.

Brief Insomnia Review - Spoiler Free

Finally finished Stephen King's Insomnia this week and I was not expecting all the Dark Tower connections. I have not read Dark Tower yet, but this may be my catalyst. The book has a hard time standing on its own and I'm happy I had an idea about the Dark Tower series so I could follow what...

    A Good Marriage

I will listen to non-fiction audiobooks, but I prefer to read fiction. I introduced audiobooks to my commute because there were simply too many books on my to-read list that I knew I wouldn't get to.

    Ending ***SPOILERS***

Now you'll have to read the short stories "Jerusalems Lot" (a prequel) and "One For The Road" (a sequel, but more like an epilogue). Both stories appear in Night Shift. I thought Jerusalem's Lot was okay, but definitely different. I really enjoyed "One For The Road."

    A Game Gone Horribly Wrong

I do think this was the most uncomfortable King book I've read so far because it took place in the real world. Even though this was a fictitious story, I knew the story of molestation was all too true for many people. I'm sorry to read your comment @EMTP513 - there are too many real monsters...

    Say what???

I believe King saw the news broadcast on a hotel TV in one of the Carolinas and it was a car driving through a line of people waiting to apply for open positions at a McDonald's. Does that sound right?

    Need suggestions for teen readers

The Giver by Lois Lowry is excellent as a standalone book and as part of a 4-book series. I read this back in elementary school and LOVED it. I recently revisited it as an adult and learned Lowry wrote another 3 books to complete a quartet. I thought they were all pretty good, but the first...

There are only two kinds of people in the world, those who know what a flux capacitor is and those who don't.

    "Horror" Writer

I agree that Stephen King is a Writer, with the intended capital W. He is as much fascinated with the human condition as he is with elements of horror, science fiction and the supernatural. Since he uses horror and the like to tell a very human story I believe he has been labeled a "horror...

    Wonderful Film!

I do think that is part of it to, and I can appreciate that. And the remakes and reboots to pay off from time to time, just look at Batman Begins. I think when I have a kid someday and he's ready to be introduced to, I dunno, let's say Carrie to stick with the thread's topic, I think I'm going...

Make Separate Category for Carrie Remakes

Just an idea, for Movies it would help if there was a Carrie (1972), Carrie (2002) and Carrie (2013) to help guide discussions to the film they want to talk about. Actually, the 2002 version could go under Made-For-TV Movies.
