I so wanted that Root Beer. I could taste it. That is how good SK is.
Immediately after reading the first root beer scene, I went out and bought myself a root beer. That's how good the root beer scene was.

On another note, somehow I never ended up finishing this book (even when I'm wrapped up in a book I have so much trouble actually finishing anything, for some reason), but knowing what happens in the end, I feel that Jake simply left it pretty much at that - knowing SK, I presume that Jake did not bring up anything about the timelines or anything of the matter; it could overcomplicate her life at that point.
I'm not sure whether or not they would remain friends; either way I'm sure that Jake would have trouble with the concept of letting her go, but he would probably be able to do so as he is a fairly strong character.

I've heard it's popular in some other countries, though I'm not sure which countries, exactly. It may seem odd, but have you considered ordering some offline?

There are some specialty beverages that I enjoy that aren't sold anywhere locally, so I order them from off the internet. I think it's called Birch Beer as well, if there's any confusion.

Birch beer is awesome. I think actually better than root beer. It has a sweeter but less "tangy" taste than root beer. Definitely worth a try.

You never finished the book!?! That was by far the best part. Drive to the library immediately, kick down the door if they are closed, grab the book and read that last chapter. Arguably, that is one of SK's best written chapters ever, especially to end a book.

P.S.-- I still think Sadie and Jake have some type of relationship after the big dance!! After reading the other posts, I think I'm in the minority on this one.

I loved this book, particularly because of the ending. I like to think that perhaps Sadia and Jake became friends after the dance. I would have loved for Jake to stick around and over time fill Sadie in on their life in that different time, but I don't think SK had that in mind for them.

I don't think there is a perfect universe. You make the best of what you are given, location on Earth or period in time. That being said, the early 1960's in Jodie, Texas doesn't seem like a bad place to live in time.
SK seems to imply that altering the past can only make things worse, thus the current timeline is the best Universe can do for us.

Then why have the gatekeepers or the portals in the first place? If altering the past have adverse effects in the present or future, then close that option all together. Also how were the gatekeepers chosen, and what happens to then after they go insane?

I am not sure if the gatekeeper could prevent Jake to alter the past. The gatekeeper was there to just observe. He had of course the freedom to talk to Jake and influence his opinion. At least this is what I recall now, months after reading 11/22/63.

Jake told himself not to do a lot of things with regard to Sadie, and he never could make good on those things because, well love makes you do things from the heart not the head. He tried his hardest to stay away from her in 2012 and couldn't. I find it hard to believe no matter how hard he tries not to, that Jake won't end up back the Rabbit hole one more time....

If he had met her in 2012 and there was zero spark then maybe, but after that dance
