But now it,s not just his present, it,s her,s as well. Their love transcended time, no reason it can,t flourish in real time. And while it might be difficult for a 40 yo and an 80 yo to develop a new relationship, their love has already proven it can conquer many hurdles. Plus, many people in this thread must think sex and passion is impossible for older folks. Not true!

It's only George's present. I don't know if the future in this story is already written or only becomes set in stone once it becomes "the past". But as I took it that Zack Lang is from the future then George is still "living in the past".

Wow, I just finished reading this book but it,s way after most of you guys. But I will throw this to the cosmos anyway. Why do most of you feel it would be impossible for jake and Sadie to rekindle their romance?! For jake, their love affair took only a small interval, although it was decades longer for Sadie. How many of you would give your eye teeth to hold and cherish and see alive a loved one after their death? Sadie is alive! Why should jake care if she is a few decades older? Smacks of female ageism; after all, how many elderly men keep turning in their wives for newer models until at the end some men have wives their granddaughter's age! Why shouldn,t they continue loving one another? They shouldn,t merely because Sadie,s older? Doesn,t make sense to me. Their love transcended time, why not age span? Also, why would SK have both Sadie and jake be unattached? Please, I,m sure many of you are past 50 years of age. Don,t you still feel desire and love? Let,s allow Sadie and jake share a few more lovely years together!

that's romantic but not entirely realistic. the age difference wasn't the biggest part of this. the biggest part of this is that as much as he loves sadie, she has no idea who he is, and a lot of the events that caused her to fall in love with him would have never happened. he could pursue it, but would she really take him seriously? the idea of them getting together isn't out of the question, but it is unlikely, given the vastly different circumstances of their last meeting.

I still don't think physical intimacy is the major hurdle for this couple. It's the fact they met in a "paralleling universe" is the problem. I'll set the scene:

After the dance, Sadie and Jake head back to her house and start to get intimate. Soon later....Sadie is laying in bed with a freshly lit cigarette in her mouth, breathing heavily "Wow, you are quite a machine in bed, Jim, no Jake? And how did we know each other again?"

"You too Sadie. Just like I remember although you probably don't. See we met in a parallel universe where I was trying to save JFK from assassination. I met you back in the 1960's and we were a hot couple. Then you were killed in the assasination attempt so I went back to the real world. But it was a mess like radiation everywhere. So I went back to 1958 to reverse my tracks from coming the first time. I swear I was going to look you up but remember what happened the first time? So I came back to present and looked you up in real time (well a few years later) and here I am. So, you got any food in fridge?

Cue the cricket noise and tumbleweed stage right....

Sadie "yeah, I think you have to leave, Jack. I think I have bridge tonight."

The End

How do you rekindle the love in a different time, location and universe. Love is so much more than physicality. It's the right setting, timing and connection. I think this love affair can't be rekindled and they have to enjoy it for what it was. I love the conversation.
Thanks Brooks :snicker:

That was funny

I do realize there is a lot more to a relationship than just the physical part

Hypothetical question - can you imagine a "youngish" woman perhaps well preserved so to speak who is still interested in sex, say 60 or 61 having sex with a man maybe 12 years younger?

This seems feasible depending on the man's interest

I guess if they wanted to just have a platonic relationship that would be more likely

(Sorry but my iPad just suddenly crapped out on me and I couldn't edit my post properly)

Had to switch to my phone

PS I actually know such a couple as described above but it's unusual

given hugh hefner i think we can imagine just about every permutation. the only differences would be motivation (the motivation with hefner's ladies usually being money or some form of fame/access)

How old was Jake?

Sadie was at a stage in her life where she would most likely not be interested in Jake;

I think the age difference would be too great
Jake was at least in his early forties as he had aged five years in his endeavor to kill LHO. Then I believe there was additional time spent in the present researching where Sadie was. I don,t know how old you are, maybe you are very young. But for myself, I will always have the capacity to love as long as I can breathe. And reading books like this make me long for the ability to be able to find and treasure lost loves no matter how many years have transpired. I know I would cherish any moments I could spend with the love of my life no matter how old we might be. The love of soul mates never dies. That our bodies are fragile and betray us does not dampen our soul or our capacity to love. Before my mother passed, she said not to listen to her, she was just an old lady. And I told her - no, that is not true, you are a child, a teenager, a young mother, a middle aged woman and have all the wisdom living all those ages have brought to you. So Sadie might look like she,s 80, but she is also the passionate woman that deeply loves jake.

Dear goodness, did you never love with all your heart and soul?! Did you spend your time with that person worried about the setting, timing, and connection? Jake and Sadie did not want to be torn from one another; therefore, their love does not have to be rekindled - it just "is". Hence, jake could not deny his need not just to find her, but to orchestrate the circumstance where he could hold her in his arms again.

you seem to not be factoring in a major point in your equation of love here. at the end, sadie has no idea who he is. love doesn't just magically happen with a complete stranger at the drop of a hat. sadie had no desire to not be torn from someone she didn't even know, so yes, their love would in fact have to be rekindled. because at the end, it never existed (in that universe, since this is basically about parallel universes at its core).

Sure. If you're asking, I've been married for 20 years and we have a great relationship. But I didn't time travel to meet my wife then return to 50 years later to reignite our love. Although she still will be a fox at 80.

You are describing a relationship where BOTH persons of the relationship know and love each other. Jake knows Sadie but not vice versus. A relationship happens over time and present day Sadie is still in the early stages of this relationship.

I've thought of this many times and I joke about it my last post. Kenqueen, please explain in detail how would Jake best explain to Sadie that they were former lovers in a parallel without scaring her off. I don't know but I'm curious. SK is taking notes for the sequel ;)

No,no,no! SK addressed this concept specifically in the book so jake and Sadie,s relationship should be viewed through the same lens. That is, that life could NOT be 100% reset. There were always "harmonies". Therefore, the layer of love that binded them could not be erased but merely camouflaged. Note that jake needed to not just to find her but also connect with her and dance with her. And she never remarried, I believe a siren call across time to her soulmate to find and reclaim her. Also note, you disbelievers, that even though Sadie was 80, jake noticed she had long albeit gray hair flowing to her waist. So that sensuous aspect of Sadie was still attracting jake. Geez, I wish the folks on this thread would get passed ageism- that people passed 60 are no longer desirable nor feel passion. So not true!

I am copying and pasting my response to a similar query:

In addition, I also believe that humans intrinsically don,t change. Why do people on this thread think that, although Sadie was able to not just accept that jake came from the future but aided his endeavors, she would be too feeble minded to process this info in both their presents?!

And, oh, hi brooks!

It's not ageism. Nobody said it was impossible for her to love because she was old. She doesn't know him. Why are you reading people saying things like she doesn't know him, and doesn't know anything about their love and getting "she's old and passionless and undesirable" out of it when nobody said anything even close to that?

ETA and feeble minded??? Show me a 20 year old that would buy that time travel story, let alone an 80 year old. She had reason to believe it when she was young because he knew impossible things. Quit putting words in people's mouths.

Really? Nobody on this thread mentioned age?!

age difference doesn't have anything to do with her being too old to love or passionless either. unlike hugh hefner, most people find anything over 20 years to be too much

Lord Tyron stated: " Jake did say that he knew her from another life, but he was pretty vague about it. It's open to interpretation. Personally, I think Jake had an itch to go see Sadie just to see what she was like, but I doubt he would have explained to her what had happened between them. It would be too much to explain and given the age difference, it wouldn't make a difference anyways. "

i already covered that. most people don't go for age differences of that magnitude, and that includes the older people in that equation. at least not for more than quickie, or for anything that's actually substantial. you're determined to paint everyone's words in the worst way you can and you're being very argumentative about it, so i'm going to bow out of this discussion, because i can't explain it any plainer to you.

You didn,t have to "explain it any plainer" to me. You have your opinion, I have mine. I did not think "the worst" of anyone! Just stating my view after reading a great book. I have a right to do that.

you do have the right to your opinion. but in separate posts on this thread you've referred to people as ageist, basically accused them of thinking old people should be put to pasture, or thinking that older people are all feeble minded, when nobody but you said anything of the sort. you're the one assigning negative motives to people's opinions. it's rude.
