2018 list:

1 - Flight 666 (2018) FTV – Not to be confused with the 2009 Iron Maiden documentary of the same name!
Passengers and crew on an international flight are attacked by unseen forces. Not the best dialogue or acting, but the SFX and premise made me not hate watching it. Just above a meh. 2/5

2 - XX (2017) FTV – This is an anthology where all four entries are written and directed by women, with women lead actors. The stop-motion that opens and closes the film and runs between films was intriguing and beautifully creepy! The stories stand alone and do not intertwine in any way. The Box: a young boy peeks into a stranger’s box then refuses to eat again: The Birthday Party: A few hours before her daughter’s 7th birthday party, a woman finds her husband dead in his office and tries to hide him in plain sight to prevent interrupting the party. Black comedy more than horror, but I chuckled; Don’t Fall: a woman is picked on by her brother and two friends on a camping trip. She gets revenge. This one was horror and the shortest installment; Her Only Living Son: A mom is hiding from her husband with her about to turn 18-year-old son. A Rosemary’s Baby homage. Overall I would rank them 1, 4, 2 and 3 best to worst. 2.5/5

3 - Lake Placid (1999) – I have always enjoyed this campy croc tale. First time that my daughter watched it and now she’s a fan, too. We may look for Lake Placid vs Anaconda during the marathon! 3.5/5

4 - Intruders (2015) FTV – Not to be confused with The Intruders also of 2015 : sigh :
Anna suffers from agoraphobia so crippling that when a trio of criminals break into her house, she cannot bring herself to flee. But what the intruders don’t realize is, agoraphobia is not her only problem. This was OK. A bit slow to start, then a bit confusing, then a rush to the reveal and end. I wanted more out of this than I got. 2.5/5

5 - You Can’t Kill Stephen King (2012) FTV – This is hilarious for true King fans (ie: members of this board). It’s a campy Horror/Comedy that pokes fun at traditional horror flicks while the kids get killed off in manners described in some lesser known SK tales. 4.5/5

6 - Gerald’s Game (2017) FTV – A very well-done rendition of the novel. Instead of voices in her head, Jessee, Gerald and Jessee’s father appear to her and talk. I was impressed by how successful it was. 4/5

7 - The Witch (2015) FTV – A family in 1630s New England is torn apart by black magic. Some of the dialogue was a bit hard to understand, but this was a spooky tale. I think the most frightening part is that in that day, anyone could accuse you of being a witch and you were pretty much done. How exactly do you prove you aren’t? 4/5

8 - Little Shop of Horrors (1960) FTV – Having only been familiar with the 1986 musical, I enjoyed this charming little farce featuring Audrey Jr., who just wants to be fed, Seymore! 3/5

9 - Trilogy of Terror (1975) FTV – This trilogy stars Karen Black as all of the lead female characters. Julie: a college professor seeks vengeance for her date rape; Millicent and Therese: twin sisters have a difficult relationship; Amelia: a women buys a Zuni fetish doll but doesn’t take care of it. Overall, pretty uncomfortable to watch with the subject matter, however not bad for a made for TV “movie of the week” from the 70s. 2.5/5

10 - Insidious (2010) FTV – A young boy becomes comatose and his family hires help to save him from the dream realm. 3/5

11 - Fright Night (1985) – A horror obsessed teen thinks a vampire has moved in next door, but no one believes him. Watched with my daughter for her first viewing. She was delighted that the vampire is Prince Humperdink! 3/5

12 - Firestarter (1984) – It’s been years since I watched this one. Very close adaptation of the book. 4/5

13 - Maximum Overdrive (1986) – Watched this one with my daughter for her first viewing. She is loving the marathon!! This has always been a favorite of mine!! 4/5
14 - Twlight Zone – 3 episodes – Nightmare at 20,000 feet (1963); Living Doll (1963), The Invaders (1961) – Another first for my kiddo. The Invaders was a first for hubby as well. These old episodes formed the basis for so many future scary movies, tv shows, etc. Fun fact: In Living Doll, the mom is named Annabelle, which is the name of that creepy doll in The Conjuring series. Coincidence??

22. Constantine: City of Demons (FTV)

DC's R-rated animated film where John Constantine fights to save a friend's daughter who is being kept trapped in a coma by a demon creating a new Hell in Los Angeles. This was my first foray into the world of Constantine and I found it to be quite enjoyable. This film unapologetically tackles the subjects of dark magic and demon summoning and embraces its R rating in a way that many live action films would ever dare to go--the demon's vision of hell on earth is pretty nasty. The character of Constantine is a good one, far from being a perfect superhero type, with cynicism and flaws but ultimately a man you'd want on your side in the battle against evil. This feature-length movie was made from 5 separate episodes stitched together so there are a few uneven or slower moments in the middle, but it all holds together by the end. I'm curious to see what DC Animation does next with Constantine.

3 out of 5 stars.

1. Marrowbone aka The Secret Of Marrowbone (2017) George Mackay

A family moves into an abandoned farm house trying to run away from the father. As the movie progresses, we get little pieces of the back story as the tension rachets up. A very slow start but good finish. 6/10

2. Hereditary (2018)

Anxious and foreboding right from the start and it never lets up. A modern classic. 10/10

3. Little Evil (2017)

An amusing spoof on The Omen movies. 6/10

4. Grabbers (2012)

Alien creatures invade Ireland and the residents discover that staying drunk is the only way to survive (the aliens don’t like alcohol). A good horror/comedy. 6/10

5. The Fly (1986) Jeff Golblum Geena Davis

Fantastic remake of a classic. The emotional change in Seth is as horrific as the physical change. 8/10

6. Dead Ringers (1988) Jeremy Irons (directed by David Cronenberg)

Identical twins (both played by Jeremy Irons) share everything and take advantage that no one can tell them apart. A take on the Jekyll and Hyde story except in this case, Jekyll and Hyde are two people that no one can tell apart. 8/10

7. Martin (1978) directed by George Romero

A young guy thinks that he is a vampire and wants to stop his vampire ways. The movie is a very low budget phycological/horror thriller and character study with some social commentary and dark humor. In other words, it’s a great George Romero movie. It’s amazing how good a movie George could make with no budget. 10/10

8. Simon Kills (2012) Brady Corbet

Very slow moving but disturbing & fascinating. This was in the horror movie section of Hulu but I wouldn’t really call it a horror movie other than it’s a realistic portrait of a sociopath. Warning – There are a lot of explicit sexual situations in this movie, so don’t watch it with your mother. :) 7/10

9. The Burbs (1989) Tom Hanks Carrie Fisher

Tom Hanks in his comedy days. It’s still pretty funny. 6/10

10. Identity (2003) John Cusack Ray Liotta

You need to stick with this one all the way through. At first, the movie seems like a compilation of slasher movie clichés but you need to stay with it. And that’s all I can say. 6/10

11. Frogs (1972) Ray Milland Sam Elliott

One of those bad movies that’s kind of fun to watch. Nature gets pissed off about what we are doing and strikes back. This movie has Sam Elliott in an early role of his. I didn’t realize that Sam Elliott was young once. 5/10

12.
13.
14.
15. The Stand (parts 1,2,3 &4)

I don’t know if I’m cheating or not but I’m counting this as 4 since it has (4) 90 minute parts. Even at 6 hours long, this beast still seems truncated. It’s good but there are a few parts that didn’t seem to get enough screen time. The Nadine character didn’t wrestle with good and evil but was pretty much bad from the start. Flagg’s slipping power towards the end and his inability to find Tom didn’t get enough time. The trip back to Boulder from Vegas for Tom and Stu didn’t get enough time either. I thought Gary Sinise was a perfect Stu. 7/10

16. Day Of The Dead (1985)

Another Dead classic from Romero and a real gore fest. 9/10

17. Honeymoon (2014) Harry Treadaway (Brady in Mr Mercedes)

A couple (Paul and Bea) goes on a honeymoon to a secluded cabin (odd place for a honeymoon but there’s a good explanation for it) and everything is going great until an odd event. After that Paul’s wife starts acting strange. Good movie with a 4 person cast. 7/10

18. American Psycho (2000)

An awesome dark dark comedy-slasher flick. Christian Bale is fantastic in this. 9/10

19. The Hills Have Eyes (1977)

This claustrophobic flick holds up pretty well after all these years. 7/10

20. The Midnight Meat Train (2008)

A brutal and terrifying adaptation of Clive Barker’s story. 8/10
