24. Dr. Terror's House of Horrors -

This is one of those great British anthologies from Amicus. BUT, this time, instead of watching the movie, I watched the director commentary while the movie was playing. Freddie Francis is interviewed about the making of this movie and it was so full of interesting. The interviewer (I didn't catch his name) was very well prepared and remembered and knew more than Freddie Francis! But, I'm thinking he was quite old and forgetting things, plus his hearing is a little bad.

Still a lot of information that is so worth your time if you are familiar with these British anthologies and if you've already seen Dr. Terror's House of Horrors.

Can someone tell me, I remember seeing the vampire kids on the bus in the movie Salem's Lot. I just watched the David Soul version and it wasn't there, so that must have been the Rob Lowe version? Anyone see that one that can answer this?

It is a fantastic scene in the book and I so wish it had been included in that 1979 miniseries.

25. Pumpkinhead (1988)

A man calls on Pumpkinhead for revenge and then is sorry he did. 6/10

26. Baskin (2015) Turkish movie on hulu

I’m not sure what I watched here. Here’s the description from IMDB: A squad of unsuspecting cops go through a trapdoor to Hell when they stumble upon a Black Mass in an abandoned building.

I’m not sure if this movie is supposed to be a surreal nightmare or what. It’s well made and scary and gross as hell but I was lost. 5/10

24. Valerie and Her Week of Wonders

Surreal 1970 adult fairy tale from Czechoslovakia which is part art film, part vampire film, and pure cinema. Valerie is a girl on the verge of becoming a woman in a small village with lots of superstitions and occasional magic, and struggles to find out what happened to her parents while her mystical grandparents do battle and cloud matters further. This is one of those movies where I suspect it's better to just experience it without trying too hard to figure things out: as soon as you think you have an idea of some kind of structure, it pulls the rug out from under you again. It has that odd disjointed spaghetti western feel to it, but it's very pretty to look at, and has a creepy, lecherous vibe throughout. I am guessing this is one of those movies that either works for you or it doesn't, there isn't much middle ground here--I'd call it a near-masterpiece of weirdness.

4 out of 5 stars.

I love this one! It makes a brilliant double feature with Tales From The Crypt (not the TV show).

I'm behind this year. I'm seeing some binge-watching in my immediate future! ;)

15) Cucuy: The Boogeyman (2018) FTV – When a teen is put on house arrest, she is in a prime position to spy on her new mysterious neighbor and investigate the disappearances of children in her small town. A new made for TV movie on SyFy that was a bit better than they have done in the past. 3/5

16) Alien (1979) – In Space, no one can hear you scream! First viewing for my daughter. 4.5/5

17) AHS: Apocalype (2018) FTV – Ep 5 & 6 – I am really enjoying this season. It’s dark though! If you were a fan of Season 1 and you aren’t watching, you might want to check out Ep 6: “Return to Murder House”. – 4/5

...I enjoy reading y'alls reviews and seeing movies mentioned I never knew existed-but I seldom get to even chalk one film up as watched due to Tracy not enjoying them in any way, shape or form....and I respect that.....last night though, she fell asleep while I was rubbing her tootsies and I checked out Trick 'r Treat....it was well done....nothing that made me jump or shudder.....just campy fun, meant to be serious......and lil burlap head(Sam)is a unique addition to the Monster's Ball....

1. American Werewolf in London

Still good to see again (I had it saved in my PVR thingy)

2. Lake Placid with Bill Pullman and Bridget Fonda - about a giant crocodile

3. Repulsion (1965) with Catherine Deneuve - more like a psychological drama but has some horror moments in it.

4. Joy Ride - a trucker terrorizes three young people after being the victim of a practical joke.

5. The Hills Have Eyes - A suburban American family is being stalked by a group of psychotic people who live in the desert, far away from civilization. (Not the original from 1977).

6. Crazies on AMC (part of the Fear Fest) - remake of the 1973 film by George A. Romero

7. The Exorcist (the original one) - I remember seeing this at the theatre in a small town we lived in when I was still in high school. Read the book first so didn't jump a lot when the frightening scenes occurred.

8. Apt Pupil, based on the book by Stephen King (another one in my PVR) - my son's friend was shocked at the scene with the cat.

9. The Brave One with Jodie Foster - while not technically a horror film it has quite a bit of violence - this is a pretty good movie.

10. Natural Born Killers with Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis - wow - that was a very strange movie (not what I was expecting).

11. The Psycho She Met Online - this was like the Harlequin Romance version of a scary movie with perfect looking people etc. It was also filmed in Canada (probably for the tax breaks).

12. Good Neighbors - this one I liked - set in Quebec in the Notre Dame de Grace region about a murderer of young women. Sort of a whodunnit but with a good cast and good plot. Very quirky yet it kept you on your toes, wondering how it would end.

13. Secret Window - Johnny Depp was eating an awful lot of Doritos plus I was surprised at how young Mario Bello looked. Pretty good film - a bit of gore near the end but mostly psychological.

14. White Zombie from 1932 with Bela Lugosi (on Turner Classic Movie channel).

15. The Mark of the Vampire with Bela Lugosi (again) - this was pretty good with a surprise ending. (1935).

16. Eli Roth's History of Horror (parts 1 & 2) - not technically a full length movie but a good documentary with cameos by Stephen King and son Joe Hill.

p.s. a bit of trivia about Secret Window with Johnny Depp - much of it was filmed in parts of Quebec, Canada

I've seen this one many times but that first time in the theater on opening weekend in 1979 was quite an experience. The audience reaction to the John Hurt scene was memorable. This was one of my favorite movie experiences as an audience member.

I'll bet that was epic! :D

The thing is, so many movies have spoofed that scene, that she knew it was coming. Lost some of its impact.

25. Halloween (2018) (FTV)

40 years after the events of the original Halloween movie, Michael Myers is back and pursuing Laurie Strode and her family. Jamie Lee Curtis gives a great performance and the movie does a good job capturing some of the magic of the original movie, in fact nearly recreating several iconic scenes but with new twists. Unfortunately, instead of being simple and direct like the first movie, this movie was made more crowded and overwritten, too many characters and arcs, and actions that strained credulity. The writers never seem sure who this movie is about so we waste lots of time on exposition and scenes that really just don't matter or belong in the movie. One "twist" in particular nearly ruins the movie, I mean stops it dead in its tracks, and it was totally unnecessary and inconsequential to the plot. So, don't overthink this one, ignore all the side characters and plots, and just enjoy seeing Michael and Laurie battle it out.

3 out of 5 stars.

I loved this. I thought it was well done. The casting was great. The sets and scenery were so creative. I can't wait for season II.

I had trouble hearing Sissy sometimes and it took me clear till episode 10 to figure out how to turn on closed captioning. duh.

And a side tidbit. The man who plays the deaf guy Odin, is a deaf guy. CJ Jones. I have watched a couple documentaries on the deaf community and deaf culture where he is prominently featured. I highly recommend them.
