Not really. I'd put it about mid-list--pleasant. Not his best or worst. It reminded me a lot of Rose Madder, in tone (and the ice cream truck on the cover had me expecting a nod to Cell somewhere in the book. I was surprised by that non-event--lol). I don't think anyone loves every book, though--that's normal with a writer who spans genres and writing styles. Welcome!

Nope. I was disappointed when I first read the description many months ago. Soon before it was published and excerpts were released and more was said about it, I realized that this was SK's foray into the "beach read" category and then it all clicked. That said, I really liked it! Had I expected the grand-style SK (which I believe Revival will be this November) then I would have been disappointed. But when you just give in to the genre, all the things we Constant Readers have come to love about SK are there!

Shockingly, I had the exact same opinion. I know you're surprised.

Welcome to the site, Sarah. :) I really enjoyed Mr. Mercedes, what specifically disappointed you?
Just didn't grip me like the others? Felt the same about Tommyknockers. Believe me, hate to criticise "the King" he's such a large part of my life. Love to get new novel and immerse myself in his psyche. I just felt he had to write it, rather than wanted to.
