Nomik,

My Dad was a navy man as well, 23 years. His last years were with the Navy's Blue Angels. I joined the Corps. "The Crucile" is the culmination of the Marine's training, after weeks of hard work, practical application over several sleep deprived days. At the end of which the young Marines are awarded their Eagle, Globe, and Anchor collar emblems. The symbol that they are now members of the Corps of Marines.

My reply to that original post was an indication that I was an OLD Marine. I graduated in May of 77. They hadn't started the Crucible at that time...LOL. It came much later.

Thanks to you all. As a long time King fan, I have been reading the forum to pass the time as I sit and stare at the walls, and one thing is crystal clear. There are friends here, and there are those who really don't get along...

Yup, it's one big family. I'm thinking after a time the gang will see where I fit in the pecking order. :nerd:
....there are SOME who have squabbles, but they're usually short lived and those that aren't, we run out of cyberspace on a rail.......

That's funny, but glad to see it.
I have left several forums because great conversations were ruined by bullying, arguments, or disrespect of others. I got paid to deal with the underside of human nature thru two careers, and almost twenty five years...

On my off time I preferred to stick to more positive pastimes. I tried to keep my posts constructive rather than destructive, and I have written more than one than I didn't hit the "post" button on. Self moderation is a wise first step. LOL.

Hot topics gets pretty heated sometimes, but we expect it in that area. We try to keep the main board drama free.

The gang picks on each other on my woodworking forum, all in good natured fun. We also have our off topic section, where all topics are allowed and as you said, some of those topics get heated as well. If you don't like the topic, or the conversation, opt out. Lol.

I am glad to be here and have been touring the site, threads about old favs bringing back memories, and adding classic King to my reading list.

=D That's funny. My daughters growing up, were afraid of THAT "IT" cover on my end table and therefore, afraid of raingutters for the rest of their young lives. The oldest of the three still walks wide around them. When they changed to the Pennywise cover on later editions.. their reaction was, "Meh."

They found Pennywise terrifying... don't get me wrong. But the cover?
Meh.

lol... I read IT years ago and I was an adult when I read it but I won't walk near those curb-side rain gutters either

I'd like to add that our amazing moderators do a great job of keeping this place pretty drama free. They allow a certain amount of squabbling and then take it offline with the offender(s) to hash out.

Welcome to the board. What is your favorite King book?
Thank you, broken, and what can we call you for short? "broken" doesn't quite roll of the tongue as much as "marine".
I agree with Carrie's younger brother, the mods here are diligent, and GNTGT - is the best person ever.
There's virtually no way to contest that asssertion.
Back to Danie's question, mine is The Stand.

BOM is what they call me on the other boards, or Jim... LOL.

As for my favorite KING book, I have so many. IT, The Stand... Dreamcatcher, (I know, so many think it was a failure.) Bag of Bones is high on the list... and 11.22.63 has joined my favs.
The Body - or Stand By Me - as many know it, is my number one, because I had a group of friends just like those.... we were there for each other for a couple years, and then Divorces, job changes and the like pulled the group apart as parents took their kids and moved away. We had our adventures though.

Unfortunately we Didn't stay in touch. I have done a little writing for local throwaway papers and the like, and these guys were often the inspiration for the best of it. The owner of the paper told me she got more letters regarding my childhood stories... than anything else I wrote...

I wasn't surprised, there was more of myself in those essays.
