Hi all,

I'm new to the board (although I've visited often) and I'm here because I'm trying to put some pieces together. It's probably a mix of sentimentality, superstition, and OCD, but I've read about King living in my hometown of Fort Wayne, IN and I've always been curious about what his life was like here. I know it was a short time and he was very young, but I've always wondered if any of his work was even slightly influenced by the time he spent in the city I've lived in for 37 years. I guess this is my first stab at tracking down some of this history. Anyone have any direction for me?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I'm actually listening to On Writing right now :) He does mention Indiana, but doesn't exactly pinpoint if any of the specific stories happened in FW. I wonder if he's written about it anywhere else. Of course, it would be great to chat with him personally about his time in the Fort :)

Maybe the fictional town of Powtanville...Trashcan Man's hometown? There's a Indiana Highway 130, going to Gary (277)...for what it's worth in The Stand. Curious, so I look at a map...there is that highway 30. Is there a real highway 130? Chapter 34 of The Stand if you're interested. Too...reading the opener, I thought about that...guy who stays in the corner rooms of hotels...what was he a traveling salesman? Memory is foggy. Was that Indiana? The story had a "heartland" feel to it...not quite big city and not quite rural. Or maybe Father Callahan in his travels passed through.
