I saw it yesterday. I haven't read the book yet, but I just placed a hold on it from the library. One thing I thought for some reason was

Due to the wife's "hallucinations" (for lack of a better word for them), I thought that she actually commited the murders, and the husband was trying to cover for her.

I don't know why I thought this, but hopefully when I read the book, it will help me understand better.
That could be confusing. The girl at the video store said she thought the whole thing was a dream.

Good evening.

*sigh* The reviews on the movie do not look good. So far.

'Stephen King's A Good Marriage': Film Review - The Hollywood Reporter

I have not watched it. Yet. But I will. I would rather see it myself before I judge.

I think the problem may be...

When I read Stephen King...he is able to write in a manner that I can *see* the story in my minds eye. His words allow me to see the story unfold in my head. The words/story is so powerful (No. Not kissing azz.) it is very easy to see it. I am THERE. The feelings, emotions and the very real trepidations...and suspense.

Is it any wonder that the details and nuances cannot be readily or easily be *caught* in film?

JMO.

Peace.

(I'm sure many others could have written my feelings/beliefs in a better manner.)

I think that you put it in a manner that represents my same feeling very well...It seems to me that anyone with a brain knows that no movie can ever or will ever do a book justice. Reading a book is entering its universe. So many things that in and of themselves seem miniscule build through a book creating a picture of the characters and the setting that just cant translate to film. I do find it very entertaining that Mr. King has made it clear on many occasions that a lot of the fan attention makes him uncomfortable. Especially being asked to autograph pictures, he said that is for movie stars. I think him and his craft raise him worlds above say Brad Pitt.

The short story (it's in Full Dark, No Stars) was great - have not had a chance to see the movie yet.

I DID rewatch "Big Driver" recently as I had recorded it, and even though it is somewhat different from the book, it was still very well done and had a style all its own (but I guess I am getting off topic).

One of these days I will get a chance to watch Good Marriage but so far the reviews have been somewhat lackluster.

I watched this the other night. I have to agree the story is much better but I did enjoy the film, but wasn't to convinced by the lead female actress thought her performance was weak especially when she found what she did. I suppose it is because I imagine how I would react in similar circumstances, which is not always a good thing to do when watching a film.

My problem and the whole reason yet I haven't considered watching the film (despite this story being on my Top 5 SK story list) is that I was unconvinced by the husband and the wife as soon as I saw a preview, based solely on the casting choices. To me, casting "pretty people" to sell tickets and attract an audience was a terrible move and all wrong for the Darcy and Bob characters (also see the new Carrie White). Sometimes casting super good looking people just for the sake of attracting more viewers and making more money works to undermine the entire point of the story and undoes the horror altogether....at least to me.

They could have made the movie much scarier like the story was simply by casting a plain, portly little known actor to play Bob Anderson, no doubt.

I haven't read the story and I am sure it's better than the movie (most stories are IMO.) but I kept passing over the movie in Netflix because of the horrible ratings until I finally snapped out of it as I have seen plenty of movies with low ratings that I have enjoyed and I actually liked this movie. I am pretty good at predicting what's going to happen next in movies and TV shows, but the *twist* or *horror* in this movie took me totally by surprise.

I thought the story was better, as is the case most of the time with King, but I thought the movie was pretty effective in getting across the message. Joan Allen was really good in particular.

Good Saturday afternoon.

I have 30 minutes left watching it. I like it. Again. It's not the book, of course, but I'm enjoying it. (Now, if I can find Big Driver to watch for free I'll be in hog-heaven.)
