Here's a story for you kids............

Our first cat Nelly only lived for a short time with us after we rescued her from the Humane Society. She was a sickly, but very pretty gray haired beauty. She died when my daughter was very young. 3 or 4 was it? Anywho.......we came home late one rainy night in early spring to find the poor thing had died on the floor of the bathroom while we were gone. She had been dead for ..........umm a while shall we say? Remember how Church was when Lewis found him.....all stiff and which way? You get the picture?

Needless to say my wife and daughter wanted Nelly out of the house, but just like the bird we had lost a few weeks earlier only a proper burial would do. Now, mind you, it was raining.........around 11:00pm I'm guessing and did I tell you we live in the woods? No a street light or neighbor in sight? ( this was back in the early 90's so we have a neighbor now....LOL). It was DARK out!!!

So, here goes Out of Order with a dead cat in a garbage bag........a shovel and a flashlight (gee sound familiar?) to bury Nelly. Now, we have an outdoor light and a little over 2 acres of woods.......so the light helped out initially, but Nelly wasn't going on the edge of the woods.....oh no.........she was going to her final (I hoped) resting place IN the woods.

The rain started coming down in sheets as I dug and - did you know that sounds like voices? You see some strange things while burying the family cat in the dark by flashlight let me tell you. And why do twigs break when no one else is with you? You ever a dig a hole without a big rock blocking your way? So, I got the hole dug and yes Jud Crandall was whispering in my ear............I said a little something and fashioned a makeshift marker out of a tree branch to mark the spot so I could bring the family out later in the light of day for a viewing. The beer I had when I got back in was one of those beers if you know what I mean.

Had a bit of a hard time showing my wife and little girl where I buried Nelly..........You see the marker was gone...........Zip zero nada.............

And did I tell you that the ground was untouched where I buried her? Perfect? Like no human had ever taken a shovel to it?

I'm wondering just how hard it rained that night..............

"No, she's your cat now. Each buries his own. A man grows what he can and he tends it. And sooner or later what you own comes back to you." :grinning:

I enjoyed that OoO. Creepy, indeed.
