So recently I took a 8-5 desk job that gives me a lot of down time, I decided to get back into something I love, which is reading. I'm very particular about what I enjoy reading, my mother in law suggested I pick up a Stephen King book (she has well over 50-60 books of his, maybe even the entire collection of his work) so randomly from a shelf I grabbed Lisey's story. At first, I couldn't follow a single thing. I kept getting frustrated and having to re read pages and almost Gave up on it, but MAN am I glad I stuck it out, towards the middle of the book I was staying up late at night un able to put it down. The complexity of the story line, the characters, the connection between Lisey and Scott, the love she had for him, the ever lasting theme of SOWISA, and the language pool, just the entire book was so mind-blowingly amazing I was genuinely sad when I was finished. I became obsessed with Stephen King as an author after it, this feeling of appreciation within my own relationship, and the relationship between my two sisters and I, the fact that someone can write a novel so complex and clear at the same time and provoke so much thought and feeling, with his words, just wow. I'm aware I'm a little late to the Lisey party, the Stephen King party in general, I just have been dying to spill how I felt about it. naturally I decided to pick up another Stephen King book and finished it this morning and went scouring the internet in hopes of finding a fan page and viola.. I've discovered this place :) I'm excited to be able to converse with other readers and see different opinions/interpretations of his work!

Welcome to the Board! I moved your post over to the Newbies area so other members can welcome you, too.
thanks! Glad to have discovered it! dying to write fan mail but while finding his page I came across some discouraging things such as he no longer accepts fan mail, so discussing with all you guys will just have to suffice!

He hasn't personally read and responded to fan mail since the early '80s but you'll find a lot of friendly folks who will be delighted to discuss any number of subjects as well as Stephen King. Have a look around and don't hesitate to dive in with the discussions!
....he also won't let me tour his kitchen.....:aloof:

Welcome to the board! It's never too late to become a King fan. Your post made me want to reread Lisey's Story. Hope you'll stick around and post some more. Which King book are you reading now?
Liseys story was my first read of his, I immediately wanted to re read the book but thought wow give it some time andryia then I was recommended to read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, finished it this morning. now I have an un-opened 'Bag of Bones' in front of me. going to start it today but after finishing the last I had to find some kind of discussion page/group before continuing because I just have to get all my opinions out Hoping this is the kind of place where people can agree to disagree lol

Bag Of Bones is Steve's nod to the gothic novel 'Rebecca'. It's on a whole 'nuther level in writing style. It is one of my favorites.

Hi and welcome. Eager to read your thoughts on all the books you are reading. Lisey's Story is a favorite. Thus far you are picked some of his best books. Be aware, Stephen King has a way with his characters. You will one with them.

Is 'Rebecca' a novel of King's? I am a big fan of novels and how different writing styles are from novelist to novelist.. I'm now convinced I will be forever biased in comparison to any other author for the rest of my life :0: I'm a little anxious to start it, the paper back version is thick enough to intimidate me lol.

thanks a bunch! I loved Lisey's Story so much I thought that any other book just wouldn't do it for me. but I think it's just his way of telling stories that is catchy, so glad to have a mother-in-law who owns what I'm sure is every one of his books. Im going to jump into Bag of Bones today, I'm someone who loves to discuss things so thanks all for being so friendly! Will definitely post about my journey through it.
