Hi all, my name is Alex and this is my first post on the forums!! Anyway long story short my cousin and I went to watch the new IT movie and I've gathered a pretty big interest and both my cousin and myself want to read the book but I was just wondering what age would be recommended? My cousin is currently 14 but he's mature for his age and k was wondering would he be old enough to read IT or would it be too scary for him. Thanks all in advance. Have a good day!

...Hey Alex!....if you've seen the movie then the novel is certainly in the wheelhouse...no worries about him...

Anyone that age that can read a 1000+ page book should probably have it. For good or ill, I can't imagine in the age of the Internet that there is much to be shocked at any more from a book written in the 1980s. But that is probably a better issue for a parent to decide than random strangers. LOL.

y'know, I was kinda thinking the same think while peeling the apples. Alex, you should run this past the 'rents, unless you def know they're okay with it.

i read It at 10 or 11, and i wasn't scarred for life. and it was even pre internet. i honestly think it creeps me out more as an adult, because while you can appreciate the story while young, some of the themes and events don't necessarily sink in and affect you until you're older and have gained a bit more insight.

I agree. I've always been a little surprised by how many people consider the novel to be incredibly scary because I don't think I had that experience when I read it as a kid. And going back as an adult, it mostly makes me feel nostalgic for childhood and the kind of friendship that you really never have again as an adult.

Alex, I think I was 13 or 14 when I first read it and I think that's plenty old enough. If you already saw the movie I can't imagine that the book would really disturb you.

I started reading king when I was 12, I am currently 14 and saw the original movie around 11, the movie isn't to crass just a few crude jokes and a bunch of swear words. Nothing a child dosent hear from his parents but if not why would you take your son/daughter to a rated R movie.
