A variation on the Gardol Invisible Shield, Colgate, early 60s, that King used in Insomnia. Have not read any Simach, themes of isolation and intolerance? Maybe it comes from living on the perimeter, Millville. Do you find one's willing suspension of disbelief is easier to suspend when reading science fiction? Why should it matter the genre? A story is a story, I was going to go right back! Do people talk differently under a dome? Right here, right now! You might be interested in Stanley Crawford's, Log of the SS Mrs Ungeuntine, that includes a kind of dome built over a barge that has below it two humans and their garden and wondrous links, their organic flora is replaced by fake trees, false leaves, the link to the story now beside me, The Recognitions.

Let me put it straight. SK USED a concept which was invented by Simach. And I know that SK read Simach...he had referenced The Circle around the Sun in his Low Men in Yellow Coats. Oh, yes, he read it:) It's not just the foggy idea-it's a solid concept of an invisible wall:) Ups...

Denis Bushlatov -- you have expressed some opinions about SK's books that you did not like. You also mentioned you enjoyed Joyland and Blaze. Would you like to share with the SKMB members some of the things you liked? What you thought about the character development? How those books emotionally affected you? Were there other SK books you enjoyed?

Plenty. All Bachman books but The Regulators of course. Firestarter, Christine, Dead Zone, no Cujo, pls, Pet Sematary, Misery, Shining, Green Mile,.. the list can go on and on and on... And then, something like Rose Madder happens and the day is spoiled:)

A few people have accused SK of ripping the dome idea off The Simpsons movie lol. (UTD came first.) Anywaysssss... I think it's common for authors to share ideas. Someone is always the first with an idea. There was a first novel about vampires, a first novel about zombies, a first novel about time travel, etc etc. Simak was probably inspired by a short story involving an invisable barrier titled Arena written by Fredric Brown in 1944. One of the original Star Trek writers also used the concept in that episode with the Gorn.

SK or Joe Hill did a shout-out to Simak in their short story In the Tall Grass. The main female character thought: All flesh is grass before she... I don't want to spoil the story :)
