They are starting with Wizard and Glass, though, right? So he is a good young Roland!
Ah - never thought of that!

He looks more like the boy in The Wind Through the Keyhole, actually

That was the first Dark Tower book I read and I enjoyed it (did not even realize the significance of the Dark Tower)

I'm looking forward to this for several reasons:

1. They're doing it right. Start from Wizard and Glass, and give us a chronological narrative.
2. Stemming from 1: it gives us time to attach ourselves to the characters as they grow and the story unfolds. The actors will also age with their characters.
3. I like that they cast mostly unknowns for the roles. Start with a blank slate, so that we see only King's players, and not actors with baggage.
4. Amazon will give it just the right budget for some of the more outlandish elements and other-worldly locales.
5. I hope a really good composer is hired to write a great theme, e.g. Black Sails, Game of Thrones.

Michael Rooker is confirmed for a role, although it's still unknown which one. Could he be Cort?

The first season will be 13 episodes most likely.

Some other roles like McCreedy, Cordelia and Susan are also confirmed.
It's not really the Susan I imagined, but it's a stunningly beautiful actress:

It's funny. Even though Joana Ribeiro doesn't have misty grey eyes and blonde hair, she has the exact same effect on me that Susan had on Roland - I'm absolutely blown away by her.
I saw her in Terry Gilliam's The Man who killed Don Quixote and you will understand why she was cast if you know what happens to Susan in the end. It's rather strange, because it goes beyond type casting: exactly the same happens in that film as in the book - let's say she won't just look smoking hot.
It's as if someone saw that film and directly cast her based on that event...

I'm wondering though, if they gonna stick to the story in Wizard and Glass, aren't they all too old? Susan is 16 in that, and I can't remember if Roland's age is mentioned, but he's surely also a teenager.
So it seems they're probably gonna do the book (because Cordelia is also cast), but they're probably gonna make the ages quite a lot older.

....if they make them a lot older, it completely destroys the premise of novice gunslingers on their first "mission".....

Exactly. Although they were very young for that mission.

It's not uncommon in American series for actors to play characters ten years younger than they are in teen-series, but then they usually cast actors that look that young. That's not the case here.

Rhea is cast and in it! And Roy Depape too.

I don't know about a full green light. But when you look at art department and effects, it's all from people who've done major films, and films with great visuals. I have a feeling they're aiming big and it will look great.
I think in fantasy films, one of the most important things is to get the look of it all right.
