It's torn families apart too. My mother is deceased (R.I.P.) but she raised me to be a huge leftie and an environmentalist. She was very into politics and raised me with a lot of awareness with the political system. She ran and won different offices on the local level (she was our town's mayor for several years and worked on the city commission). It was like living politics with her. My sister agrees with me because my Mom had a huge influence on her as well--also for feminism too--my mom was a HUGE feminist. So that was cool. I think she instilled that passion in me.

Kudos to your Mom for going into politics and opening her children's eyes to how things work. She was brave to enter the arena that is dominated by men.

Thank you so much. She was an amazing woman, a true 'shero' and loved by her entire community. She died on 1/1/17. Five hundred people came to her celebration of life. I shared her with many people but she was a great role model and an inspiration to me. I am so lucky to have known her; she was my friend as well as my mother.
