I hope it doesn’t step out of what’s appropriate on the board to make a thread like this as long as it’s appropriate and stays friendly.

Dark Side of the Moon is a terribly overrated album, none of the songs on it are incredibly interesting outside of Any Colour You’d Like. I never even see it talked about that much and it’s mostly famous for the recognizable cover alone (besides hitting #1 in the album charts when it was released). It’s not necessarily a horrible album, just beyond overrated. It just didn’t musically interest me.

I'd respond to this but I tend to fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way...........

Just not a memerable Floyd album to me.

The change clinking on Money is a cool effect, and the song itself is pretty decent although kinda standard.

Great Gig in the Sky starts out great but then discount Aretha Franklin comes in and is like “WoooooAHhahai” which kinda kills it.

Us and Them and Time are nice although not memerable to me.

Didn’t really say it was terrible, just highly overrated. The songs don’t hold the same reasonance that songs like Shine on, You Crazy Diamond or Dogs have. My personal favorite Pink Floyd album is The Wall, followed by Wish You Were Here and Animals (runners up being The Division Bell and Atom Heart Mother).

I like it better than their early stuff at least (except Corporal Clegg from Saucerful, kazoos are an underrated instrument)

Van Halen was way better with Sammy Hagar as the lead singer.

Better songwriting, better vocals, better live show.

Need proof? The current version of the band doesn’t play any Sammy era songs live. Why? Dave can't sing them. Heck, he can’t even sing his own tunes anymore.

Dave was always a lazy singer and he’s only gotten worse. He can’t compensate with showmanship anymore either. Sammy, on the other hand can still bring it live at 70+ years old.

Money changes from 7/8 to 4/4 and then back again. That’s far from standard time signature for a rock song.

That said I’ve always felt pretty “meh” about Pink Floyd and progressive rock in general. I appreciate the musicianship but find the majority of it extremely pretentious. A lot of showing off for the sake of showing off.

Interesting, since you play in a band you can be a lot more critical with analyzing songs than I can. Money is a great tune, just not stand out (to me).

I may be a bit of a hypocrite calling Money not stand out, my favorite Pink Floyd song is “Young Lust” which kinda riffs on rock in general, the song in context being about The Wall’s main character, Pink, rising to stardom in the rock world.

I really liked the version of Great Gig with vocals by Durga McBroom and Rachel Fury, on the Delicate Sound of Thunder concert tape..I think it kind of brings up feelings of loss and pain, maybe other emotions listeners can relate to,and reaches some heights..each to their own, not really a rock song, but the DSOT concert tape was pretty good..and I tend to run towards ACDC and Van Halen also, but these ladies nailed it in my estimation..

I get what Dark Side did artistically, I just can’t get into the music compared to my favorite PF albums

...Joltin' Joe was a father figure, something she kept yearning for and attaching to her entire life, but yes, the slugger was her own version of "arm candy", the Arthur Miller fling was just that, by giving herself to him-not only could she learn from him, but also hoped to advance her career....she slept around...a LOT.....
