that's what I thought to, and it might still be true. But people are saying she is some witch power conduit thing for Beal, which is really not a thing or being but the idea of guilt. All of their guilt that they hacked up is Beal.
Ohhh.....that is interesting. I'll look up those YouTube theories.

So, what did you make of the slime monster?
The slime monster is all the guilt from all the years. They said that Beal, the pool, was older than the Netherlands itself and they fed it their guilt. That was why the Netherlands was able to be such a powerful country. These people did what they had to do and they fed the guilt to the pool which created the "slime monster" and they felt no guilt themselves.

That's why when the kid touched them, the guilt flooded back into them. All that guilt and they couldn't take it and hung themselves.

Do you think when she threw herself into the pool, she became the guilt, and used her power to kill them with their forgotten guilt? And why did she hug her dad at the end......and he wasn't harmed by touching her.

Yes. I think you're right. I think she became all the guilt from all the people from all the years. Her dad had no guilt. He was a good man and had done nothing to be guilty about so touching her and her touching him did not harm him. The others had some major guilt and it overwhelmed them to the point they couldn't live with it.

and when she walked by the tables, just her presence was too much for them. She didn't even have to touch them.

What's great is that horror becomes more common here now. There are more writers and filmmakers doing it. It was often said you can't do horror in the Netherlands. But they said the same in Italy before horrorfilms started at the end of the fifties, that's why Italian horror directors took English sounding names as an alias.

The truth is: you can set horror anywhere. Any place or any country. It doesn't matter, it can work everywhere.

I watched Ares in one go. Of course the episodes are very short, which helped going through it quickly. I thought it was very stylish looking. I was only a bit underwhelmed by the ending and it's too bad it isn't clear whether more is coming, or that it is the very ending. It doesn't seem there is a whole lot where you can go with the main character now, as she seemed transformed totally.
I had a feeling it's one of those cases where the makers are very good at keeping it going, but are not totally sure where they want it to go to. It doesn't all add up to a satisfying climax at the end where the pieces fall together nicely.
But overall I liked it very much and it's great it's got this reputation of being too scary to watch.
