I'm 56 so this story isn't recent. ;-D

As you go through your 20s and 30s, you notice the slow decline of people asking for your ID when you buy beer or go to a bar. I had got to the point when it was kind of rare for anyone to ask for my ID but I was in the grocery store buying beer and the cashier asked for my ID. When I started to pull it out, she laughed and said, "just kidding." That's when I knew that I was never going to be asked for an ID again. ;-D

Another funny thing happened a few years ago when I went to a concert at a club in Fort Lauderdale. They were selling beer and they asked everybody that walked through the door for an ID and they put a bracelet on your wrist if you were over 21 so you could buy beer. The show was the Kings Of Leon and it was before they were famous (and they were still good). The crowd was young and as the ticket guy was putting on my bracelet, I joked, "Am I the oldest guy here?" Without the slightest hint of a joke, he pointed and said, "no, there's one guy older over there." ;-D

...I tend to not contemplate my age much...I know I'm 56 and overweight, but most days I trudge along-hoping the back doesn't act up anymore than normal and the right knee still carries my lard ass along....every once in a while though and at the most unexpected times-something will remind me of when I was a kid and a wave of near monumental sadness washes me away for a few minutes.....

I’m 308 in dog years!

Seriously though, right before I turned 40 is when I really noticed that it takes longer to recover from stuff. Gallbladder went poof a couple months before my 40th birthday. Seems like I can only gain weight since it was removed! :(

Up until about two years ago (I'm 57 now) I was just ignoring any signs of aging and went about my business as I always did. I still felt like I was in my 20's/30's and had all this energy to burn. Then, two years ago, it just all caught up with me and I suddenly didn't have the energy that I used to have and it was getting harder to tie my shoe laces. Sure, I gained a little weight (I'm still under 170 but barely) but that wasn't the issue. I'm not liking that I can't do the things like I used to and not have an ache either during or afterwards. It's a b*tch getting old, but I don't like the alternative either.

Thank you! I'm really 72! ;;D I think I have aged in the last couple of years- got those lovely family jowls going on now and the wrinkles are catching up, too. Since the age of 20 or 21 I have taken a capsule of vitamin E every day and I attribute that to my age defying fabulousness!! I really do think that it did the trick.

43 here. Don't really feel it. I'm actually in pretty good shape, better than usual. Didn't think of myself as old until I realized JFK was my age when he was inaugurated. And I'm older than Elvis ever got.

Lean and mean, though. Hard as a rock, ready for more. Go ahead, take a swing at me, punk...

As you get older you get smarter. Why buy a treadmill or pay a gym when there is so much out there for free. :)

I'm a lot younger than you (56 ;-D) and one of the toughest things past the 50 mark is keeping the weight down. I really didn't pay much attention to what I ate or drank before 50, but now there's no more watching tv at night and eating Ben & Jerry's out of the carton. ;-D It takes a lot of effort to keep my weight where I want it now.

Try watching TV in the morning with your Ben and Jerry's. Gives you the whole day to work it off!

Just filled out the annual enrollment for health insurance. We also had to update the beneficiaries for the life insurance policies, as they are changing who handles that info.

Thinking about who you want to be responsible for your final costs, and those of your children, heaven forbid...that makes one feel mighty mortal.
