Just brought this on audiobook and was pleasantly suprised Mr King is reading it himself.

It is kind of nice hearing it spoken in the author's own voice and he makes a good job of it. It made me wonder why he doesn't read more of his own work. Hugely time consuming I guess when he has books to write.

I love it when an author does an audiobook of his work. There is something special that is captured in each word, tone, accentuation. Would tend to think it is time consuming to record the books.

I have had a nice evening. Been to a lovely guitar concert at the Bolivian Embassy in London by an English bloke playing music by a Paruguyan (mainly Barrios) but now I'm getting towards the end of Bag of Bones and I fear the evening might end in tears.

I really enjoyed how the audio book turned out. I normally find King to be dryish when he reads his own work and this turned out pretty decent. (possibly the 8th or 9th time ive listened to the audio book)

I am not a huge fan of the author reading his own work. I don't think it's an insult to say I don't think there's a lot of "depth" in Stephen King's voice. He hasn't honed it all of his life, after all. I DON'T tend to hear a lot of inflection; authors tend to read more flatly than actors do.

Of of the best examples is probably Lawrence Block. What a great writer; I particularly love his short stories. And the intros he writes to them are completely hilarious. I LOVE hearing him read the intro...but I'd rather hear someone else read the story. (Audio is the best way to experience a Lawrence Block short story because he tends to add that little twist at the end that changes everything, and if you're like me, you start to anticipate it and your eyes steal the ending before earning it!)
