I believe he made a guest talk at either Angus and Robertson or Dymock's book store in George Street, Sydney, in 1997, which I should have gone too. That would have been great, I think it was unannounced. I knew someone that worked there. One of the best 19th century arcades is the Strand Arcade down the road which made you feel like your're in 1870. I read somewhere that he traveled across Australia on motorbike, like in the movie Desperation.
It was an impromptu appearance that was set up by his publisher once he was in Australia IIRC. His original reason for being there was mostly for vacation time and possible research for a book.

I attended a talk and reading he gave at the Hilton in Sydney organised by Dymocks and the SMH. The whole thing was organised very much at the last minute so publicity was limited to the SMH printing a coupon about a week before (it was a Thursday night) which you'd send in and they sent out tickets on a first-in basis. There was no signing but a few signed bookplates were given away as a door prize and Wizard and Glass was available for sale a few weeks before general release.

He's been to Australia twice, although more personal visits. He nearly got arrested in a book store for defacing property until he proved he really was Stephen King and was just signing some of his books and putting them back on the shelf so some lucky fan would get a signed copy. It's not impossible but unlikely he'll be back, though.

So cool he does this. I doubt a writer would ever get arrested for that, but I suppose strictly legally you can't do it. The books were bought by the store and you would need permission/admission.

He should've checked with the store owners first just to be safe
