Truthfully, I didn't like this one too much. It seemed to merely be a long setup to a punch line. Haven't read it in a long time, so maybe I'd find it to be better than I thought it was on a second read. What did you like about it?

It just grabbed me and didn't let go. Maybe it was the details (when I can practically smell the things being described, I'd say it's great descriptions) or maybe it was because I have a lifelong fear of being autopsied or buried alive.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I agree with you on his descriptions being vivid. I also thought that the dark humor added to the tension.

I felt almost like I was held hostage by this one. The last hour before bed time in our house is devoted to 'reading time'. We sit around the living room as a family with a pot of herbal tea reading our escape of choice. I'd finished another book and picked up Everything's Eventual. I was only about two thirds of the way through when the kids' bedtime came up and, let me tell you, their tucking in time was a bit rushed that night because I just had to find out what happened. The suspense was incredible. I think a huge contributing factor to the suspense is King's reputation. With other authors I would be more hopeful of a last minute reprieve but in the back of your head you know that King is capable of ending it with the main character's death. It could have easily ended with the doctors discovering too late that the main character was still alive.

I was also surprised at how quickly I felt sympathy for the character considering how similar he initially seemed to the characters King described encountering in airports in the note before the collection.

The craft of the story was incredible, as usual. I love King's short stories. I love his novels but I think I enjoy the short story and novella collections even more.

I found the snake aspect pretty believable..in my city,a guy had committed a series of nasty crimes, and eventually his house was searched by law enforcement. He had all kinds of snakes, some poisonous that could kill you if you got bitten..you never really know what the Jones's next door are up to..

Welcome to the boards, Noel.

Things like that have happened, just a couple years ago, someone in my state found themselves in the morgue after a doctor misdiagnosed a coma as death..not a very nice wake up,but I guess it beats the alternative, being embalmed..

Just received this book along with a few more Stephen King books and I haven't been reading as much as I usually do so last night I read the first story in this (Autopsy Room Four) and was quite taken by this story... that would be quite unnerving...

the scene at the end with the doctor holding the awakening last limp chicken on the shelf in disbelief was pretty funny.
