I got a bit thrown out of the story I think it was between the second and third chapter, it cuts back to the visiting room, and I think it was Barclay asked for a glass of water for Hallas, but it went from first person, "I waved to McGregor" to "Barclay said" I got confused and started wondering if there was a fourth person, the narrator, in the room whom I'd missed and I had to read back a bit. Did that throw anyone else?

Other than that little part, I got pretty into it. Not my favourite story, but still worth the money.

Haha, I'm just west of Scarbs, in the beaches!!! It took me FOREVER to find a place I could afford in this specific school district.
We lived not far from the Scarborough Bluffs in the mid 60s - we had a house on Haig Avenue that backed onto the golf course (or was at least quite close to the golf course if I recall correctly).

The school I went to was called The Immaculate Heart of Mary. I got knocked unconscious on the playground once when I got too close to a bunch of boys who were playing a rather rough and tumble game.

Anyway - back to the "Bad Little Kid" topic - have not read it yet! I must go buy the Bazaar of Bad Dreams book before I end up with a second printing rather than a first edition:eek: :upside::Oo:

Just finishe
first off, I enjoyed this story a lot... That ending-- yikes!

But, like with "The Dune", I have a question I'm hoping someone can help clear up...

The narrator mentions, when telling his life story, that he stayed on campus at his college in the summer of 2000, but was born in 1969... Thus putting him at 31 years old. I think it was mentioned that he stayed on campus his junior year, so I think 1990 would have made more sense. As well, the narrator mentions when he sees the bad little kid again in 2000 that it had been "over ten years" since he'd seen him last, but the last time he'd seen the kid was when he (the narrator) was in fourth grade... So 1979/1980? Am I missing something or what?
Just finished this story. I was confused by the timeline as well.

The warden's last name is Toomey, which reminded me of Craig Toomey in The Langoliers. I think there are minor characters in The Dark Half and 11/22/63 (?) with that last name as well. Is this a popular name in the northeast, or just a connecting gem in the SK Universe?

I can't read this thread right now because I have not yet finished this story. But....Mr. King you have succeeded in scaring the heck out of me.

I prop two pillows up to sit and read in bed before going to sleep. Then, when I put the book down, I separate the pillows. Last night, as I pulled the top pillow off, it somehow tangled up with the bottom pillow (how? Just how?) and wrapped around my neck, feeling much like a hand.

I have no idea how this happened, but the more I pulled (fought) the more my neck was getting pulled. And I'm sure I
saw red hair and
heard laughter
