What is with the SK obsession with balding being some kind of negative male trait? What % of men go bald? I've been on a kick reading his older works (pre 1990) and in his description of men, particularly of nasty or unlikable characters, baldness is one of his go to descriptors. As if going bald is a result of poor character, and it's not at all a genetic trait carried down on the male side of the family which has nothing to do with personality. I notice that he himself has kept a lot of his hair. I want to write him a letter, and after praising his once every hundred years imagination, I want to ask him what is his problem with balding men? We can't help it! Rotting yellow teeth yes, beer belly yes, bad skin pretty much yes, but balding, am I missing something? Please tell me so I can change it, otherwise it's beyond my control!

It's because SK has a hairline like Stalin! :) However the widowed husband in Dolan's Cadillac was largely bald, and Hodges in Mr. Mercedes was balding. Many of us have degrees of balding in our present or future -- like King's pal Peter Straub! I think SK with his impenetrable and majestic Ronald Reagan-esque foamy crest of locks has some trouble sympathizing.
