We went to the Jays game yesterday. They got creamed....but other than that it was a great day.
The pregame ceremony for Canada Day included honouring all three levels, army, navy, Air Force. Between innings they showed one of them receive his promotion. Then later, the camera was put on two soldiers who saw themselves on the screen. One had tears. The other leaned in for a kiss, and held up the hand with a new engagement ring.
They also honoured the first 13 police officers that responded to the van attack. Constable Ken Lam (the officer who didn’t shoot) threw out the first pitch.
At the end of the game, the 13 Police Officers we’re outside the gates meeting the crowd. I had the opportunity to meet PC Lam. I know a few people that have worked with him and they both said he is a really nice guy and neither were surprised when they heard it was him that didn’t shoot. He really is a nice guy.
I know this is a long post.....but I have to talk about Nicholas Castellanos
The Jays were playing the Tigers. Castellanos beat us...completely. Grand slam. Caught every ball the Jays hit into right field. But, if the ball was not still in play, he then tossed it to kids in the stands. Always to kids. Pointed to who he was throwing it to. One time, the kid didn’t catch and it bounced away but the adult who did catch it brought it over and handed it to the kid. What a classy player. Then, he hit another ball that should have been a home run, but somehow Pillar flew up and caught it. Castellanos applauded the play before heading back to the dug out. Doesn’t matter how many runs you are up by....everyone wants home runs. But that guy, is just so classy.
