I tried this one out last night, but...I dunno. Maybe not for me. I think Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga are both tremendous actors, but the exploitative aspects of this really bothered me (not to mention the nerd fantasy aspect. Not one but 4 hot girls all can't wait to get into new and nerdy's pants? C'mon.) It was like American Horror Story-lite.

I'm almost done with season 2 on netflix. I like this show but it's almost all because of Freddie Highmore (Norman) and Vera Farminga (Norma). I love the way Freddie plays Norman Bates. He has a perfect combination of likable nerdy, funny nerdy and dangerous psycho. I don't really care much for the storylines about the town and things that don't directly involve Norma and
Norman. Freddie makes this well worth watching.

I saw episode 1 last night and it was a good one. Norman is really starting to go off the edge now. I really like how the series creators made Norman's issues get worse gradually over the three seasons. Also the relationship with his mother has got weirder gradually as the 3 seasons have progressed. Judging from episode one, it looks like we are going to getting close to full blown psycho mode this season.

Has anyone here read the book? I am curious about the location of the Bates Motel in the series. In the movie, I don't think the location was specified but it almost had to be Arizona or California. In the TV series, the location is Oregon. I am just curious if Oregon was the location of the motel in the book.
Well, I just read up on it here...

Psycho (novel) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

...and find no locale mentioned. The Hitchcock movie might have pinpointed it, though I don't remember.

I think this show gets better and better as the seasons progress. This one has started off great. I think we're really getting to the meat now. Norma and Norman are getting a liiiiittle too close for comfort. I don't really like the Dad/Uncle guy. I can't tell if he wants to protect Dylan or if he has ulterior motives. How uncomfortable does Norman look with Emma? She's all into dating him and he's just trying to be normal when I'm pretty sure all he wants is his mommy. Vera and Freddie are great on this. She conveys jealousy and vulnerability all at once so well. I like the other minor characters on the show, especially Dylan, but this really is all about these two. Wonder what happened to the hooker? Another Psycho blackout perhaps? I can see why he turned out the way he did.

Great episode last night. I think this season is going to be fantastic. Normie baby is really showing the crazy. Norma wasn't looking all that sane either last night. :heheh:

Season 3 has been awesome so far. I was looking at the A&E website and the titles for all of the 10 episodes are listed. Episodes 9 & 10 are called (It's not really a spoiler but I'm going to put it in one just in case someone doesn't want to see the titles):

Episode 9: Crazy
Episode 10: The Psycho

Episode 9 could be about Norma or Norman

I read the book, years ago. Seems like it was set in CA--let me check.

Yup. Fairvale, CA :)
