Went The Day Well? - 1942 (Black and White)

A British war/propaganda film about a small English Village being silently invaded by the Nazis. It's gripping, and brutal in places. I just love how the villagers all pull together, to get the message out or try to escape (with many dying as punishment) Despite this it ends wonderfully upbeat... and yes the day did go well in the end.

Barney's Version (2010) - starring Paul Giamatti

Saw it a few years ago, ran across on cable, I had never heard of it, so, maybe I'm wrong and it was wildly popular. Either way, I loved it.
I read the book but haven't seen the movie. Mordecai Richler wrote it and has a lot of good books. I think he's best known for The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. Plus he's Canadian (Oops...my nationalism is showing).

Don't know if this counts, but Death Sentence (2007) with Kevin Bacon, directed by James Wan. Up until the second season of Daredevil, I would tell people that this was the most faithful adaptation of The Punisher's story I had ever seen. If you like stories about ordinary people seeking vengeance/justice, check this one out.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986). I dunno, some of you may have heard of this flick, but I never hear cats talk about it. Michael Rooker (of Walking Dead and Mallrats fame) stars as a Roman a clef style Henry Lee Lucas in a VERY disturbing flick. Oh, it's a hard one to watch. Give ya nightmares and make ya sick...but ain't that what good horror movies supposed to do?

I used to could stomach hardcore horror flicks but found out after watching Wolf Creek (stopped half way through) that I couldn't. The sounds of bones popping and dismemberment and stuff like that makes me cringe. Guess I'm wussing out. I love to be scared but I don't enjoy the torture porn movies. I've never heard of it but I will try to find.
As a kid, scenes like the woman being pulled apart by two semis in
The Hitcher
didn't bother me at all. The gorier the better.

It's rough, man. But in a more psychological manner. It'll get inside yer head and pee on the furniture. Just...icky.

Like Tobe Hooper's TCM? The soundtrack and sounds alone are blood curdling, lol.

In a way, I reckon. No overt gore, no...it's not 'torture porn' (sorry, but I HATE that expression. I've watched some nasty grindhouse horror, but have never masturbated to any of it, heh heh). It's just gritty and unsettling. Give it a shot, ya scardy cat! (Heh heh).

I love Rooker (he also made a great Merle on TWD). Where can I find this one?

Two of my obscure favorites that I would recommend to anyone:

Kitchen Stories - (2003) "by turns touching and funny, this Norwegian import offers quietly absorbing commentary on modern life and friendship" (Rotten Tomatoes)

Still Crazy - (1998) - About the reunion of a 1970's rock band called Strange Fruit. Very Funny. With Bill Nighy, Stephen Rea, Timothy Spall, Billy Connolly.
