in no particular order

equilibrium
matrix (the original more than the sequels, although i don't hate them as much as most)
inception
star trek: first contact (i like them all, but to me that wins out of all the movies)
the original star wars trilogy
jurassic park
back to the future
alien and aliens
terminator and terminator 2
et
fifth element
the thing
12 monkeys
galaxy quest
invasion of the body snatchers (although which version is debatable, also may as well throw the faculty into that debate, as it's also good but essentially the same thing)

Blade Runner

Sunshine
Solaris
Gattaca
Moon
The new Planet of the Apes series (all 3)
Interstellar
Enemy Mine

This is as far as I got before all the subgenres started driving me nuts! Where, exactly, is the line between sci-fi and fantasy? (Star Wars) And horror (Event Horizon)? And comedy (Galaxy Quest)? How about social commentary (Alien Nation)?

I love movies. I guess I have to leave it there. :)

oh, forgot tremors. the original was so fun. might technically be closer to horror, but who cares.

I draw a pretty hard line between sci-fi and horror, so I wouldn't normally include The Thing or Scanners (I love 'em both for what it's worth, except for Stephen Lack's horrible performance in the latter). Maybe I should reconsider the whole genre thing. What about a film like The Prestige? I think I could make an argument to include that in the sci-fi category.

the thing gets in because it's about an alien . . . i honestly don't know if i've seen scanners so can't speak to that. there's certainly movies that are sci fi and horror together. doesn't the payoff of prestige have something to do with technology? i think it would be able to be counted.

Yeah, I can see The Thing. I just never considered it. Yes - The Prestige does incorporate some sci-fi elements near the end. I don't think that's really a spoiler of any kind.

Blade Runner
Alien/Aliens
The Thing
They Live!
Escape from New York
District 9
Westworld
Logan's Run
Stalker (is it SF, or is it just a film about a journey to a room?)
Moon
Enemy Mine
Predator
Dune
The Terminator/Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Planet of the Apes
Star Trek ("Prime" universe; I even like Star Trek V for the Kirk/Spock/McCoy friendship dynamic - even if it sometimes goes too far into the comedic - and the "What does God need with a starship?"/"Who am I? Don't you know? Aren't you God?" stuff)
Demolition Man (Sandra Bullock. Need I say more? ;;D)
The Fifth Element
Jurassic Park
Quatermass/Quatermass 2/Quatermass and the Pit
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the one with Donald Sutherland, et al, since it's the first version I saw)
