I think I have an extra copy of Full Dark, No Stars-and if I do, I'll send it to you, hon! =D

You are too kind, morgan, dear:love:--but thank you, you don't have to do that!

Wow, I thought this was a great rendering of the story. However,
the graphic rape scenes really bothered me. What they're allowed to show on a cable tv channel amazes me. I always think of some 10-year-old surfing around and seeing that stuff.
--shudder--

I agree--those scenes were disturbing! Hard to watch.

Yay!

I enjoyed it very much.

My only disappointment..

Ramona. The mothers death. It was too quick and too easy. Beg pardon, she KNEW what her *boys* were doing and she not only kept quite about it...she enabled them! And she murdered her husband so he wouldn't tell?!. May she be in he11, stoking the fire. But, that's just me. Ha!

Peace.

Well crud, I thought it came on it 8pm, but it came on at 7pm my time; so I'm patiently waiting until 9pm for the second showing. I'm skipping the snacks in favor of hanging on to my wine buzz.

Woman, get yourself a bottle of wine and some munchies. DO NOT throw the wine or munchies at the tv screen when you see what hits the fan!

Peace.

Hi.

I understand what you are saying. But, (There's always a "but".) do you know the TV censors (long time ago) would allow a scene showing a woman being sexually abused BUT would not allow a man being hit/kicked/assaulted...in their groin area to be televised?

Peace.

Interesting. I guess America's Funniest Videos took care of that!
I just think of my son (12) coming upon that scene, and I get nauseated.

I thought it was a great adaptation. That particular scene was brutal. There were some deviations from the book, but they were necessary because so much of it was inner dialogue. I've only read A Good Marriage and Big Driver from Full Dark, No Stars. That is a really disturbing collection - brilliantly told by our beloved Sai King, but I can only take it in small bits.

I was thrilled to see Olympia Dukakis. I usually don't watch commercials - I record and fast forward through them. I'm looking forward to The Red Tent. And the Horseless Headsman cracked me up,

Yes, ma'am.

I think I understand.

My son and I love/loved to watch *horror* movies together. It was a great time. It was a momma son time. Cool.

But, when my son was of an age where he was going through adolescence (hormones) I bought down the hammer.

He was not allowed to watch movies where sex and violence were paired.

Have mercy! I have a son who is hormonal and all hot and bothered. It's natural, normal and healthy to be "hot and bothered" at that age, however, I WOULD NOT allow him to to watch a movie that pairs up sex and violence. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

I applaud you. This movie was NOT appropriate for children under the age of ...15/16?

Peace.

(Would you be so kind. How do I get 7th/8th graders to listen to a substitute teacher?) (Is it possible? )

That's good advice, Sig.

Just finished watching it...wow! It was amazing, and the acting superb. Even though I knew exactly how the story was going to play out I was on edge throughout, very suspenseful. I feel the rape scenes had to be graphic to show exactly why Tess does snap and seek her own revenge, rather than allowing the courts to decide what is a suitable punishment. Brilliant movie...I will definitely watch it again.

Ally, am I right in thinking you live in the UK? I've searched for it on sky but I can't find it anywhere.... where'd you watch it? :-(

Somewhere over the Rainbow
I wasn't bored, but I thought something was missing after that graphic scene in the beginning. It then went a little flat and some of the scenes felt rushed. I wish they stayed a little closer to the book at the end. Otherwise, compared to all the other Lifetime movies, it was good.

On the other side, I wonder what I would have thought if I didn't read or know the story. I think sometimes it's difficult to please everyone with these adaptations. The story is so good and to put it on big screen, I think it's hard to convey the dynamics completely.

I still think the best King adaptations is "Misery" and "Pet Sematary" and honestly, I didn't mind "Thinner" either. Obviously "Creepshow" was an awesome King creation too.

...I am obviously going to be in the minority here...I was bored silly after 45 minutes and flipped over to paranormal programming...it just didn't capture me like the story did...even WITH Joan Jett in it...

Yeh that's pretty much how I felt with A Good Marriage...further proof that some adaptations work for some, and not for others. :smile2:
