Have to say that even though I'm over 50, I don't remember much if anything about him. I recall seeing him in some presidential photo ops. His hey day must have been earlier. I will say that the outpouring of support and respect at his passing suggests a life well lived. And I never heard his name associated with any scandal typical of many popular religious figures. He also seemed to be on the right side of history during the Civil Rights era which was no easy thing for a white southerner of that era. A Catholic priest on Fox News said that with the cultural changes toward religion that Graham might be the last religious figure in our country to be so honored. Kind of a surprising admission given the source but likely true.

I went to see him when he appeared at Randwick Racecourse. My mother was a Catholic but she wanted to go and see. He seemed pretty good, no controversy and didn't fall in with the Falwell crowd and wasn't like Baker etc. Apparently because he was married to his wife, Ruth, and was slightly paranoid about scandal, he would have a minder make sure no women were hanging around hotel receptions etc so that someone might take a picture with him. RIP.
