I like the sound these birds make - you often find them alongside a country road, especially in wet or marshy areas.

I love these! There are a lot of marshy areas along roads here in southern New England, and I see these guys every day in my travels. I always wish I could slow down and look at them. :)

You should pull over for a few minutes and listen to the sounds they make :encouragement::frog::)

Very soothing

Although, while listening to the video I posted, there was a segment that sounded a bit like The Three Stooges :playful: (right around the 1:04 mark!)

and around 1:20 too

A pair of mockingbirds are nesting in some tall bushes on the side of the house. But of course they feel the need to sit in the trees outside the bedroom window and sing... a lot. They mimic what must be over 20 different bird calls... from early morning until night. They need to move on... To some other state!

I've only seen one mockingbird while living where I am now. I've heard they'll even imitate car alarms.
In the past two years I've become an avid birdwatcher and even scratch down descriptions and observations in my writing journal (which is a catch-all from book quotes to sketches to random thoughts). I particularly like the white-throated song sparrow but haven't seen one up close. In my yard I've seen: brown thrashers, cardinals, eastern bluebirds, black-capped chickadees, robins, jays, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, brown-headed cowbirds, mourning doves, brown sparrows, wrens, crows, hawks, barred owls, and larks.
I haven't seen any finches, though, even with feeders.

I used to try and keep track of all the different species that visit us, but have stopped. We get an unreal variety. I also have a suet feeder with a cake made specifically for woodpeckers. About four variety of woodpeckers visit. My next door neighbor has a small pond which he stocks with koi. It was regularly visited by blue herons and egrets. But since he got a husky this year I haven’t seen any. Also haven’t seen any hummingbirds so far this year. Different types of ducks stop by for a dip in the pool, but always leave me some droppings, so I shoo them away as soon as they come.

The most surreal bird experience happened many years ago. I have some land with a creek running through it. In one open spot alongside the creek there grew orange colored wild flowers. One day there were about a dozen hummingbirds feasting on their nectar. I walked into the middle of the flowers and just stood there. My presence didn’t seem to bother the hummingbirds and they continued to feed all around me. Having them hover about a foot from my face then dart off, over and over again, is something I’ll never forget. I stood there for about a half hour in amazement.

So you are a bird lover? You can't be all that bad then, eh?

Wow, that is amazing. That must've been some good nectar, lol. I'd love to see that.

That is incredible! One of those priceless little moments that we sometimes get in this thing called life. Your land sounds magical! :)

lol, I would gladly trade you our neighbor's cows for your mockingbirds. Every once in a while, late at night, one of them makes LOUD ghostly moans. I wake up, nudging hubby, saying What the L is that?!? In my sleepy state, it takes me a while to realize our house isn't haunted, it's just one of the cows lol.

I'll gladly take the moaning cows. One of our neighbors had chickens. From the crack of dawn it was roosters crowing and mockingbirds singing. Avian torture I tell you! Haven't heard the roosters in awhile... Dinner must have been good. :)
