The only other "for me" purchase I made. Black tourmaline and amethyst cluster:

Not necessarily cool, but something I needed, and a tie-in to Memorial Day. I keep a US flag up 24/7. But in doing so you should illuminate the flag at night out of respect. I’ve had to turn the backyard porch light on at night and turn if off in the morning. Lately I’ve been forgetful about turning the light on. I found a solar light that attaches to the gutter and automatically turns on from dusk to dawn. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this years ago. :facepalm_smiley:

I can understand some folks wanting to be patriotic, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to hang my country’s flag on the porch just to let other’s know I enjoy living here, I can’t understand why people treat their flags like live bombs when handling them. Accidentally getting a flag dirty doesn’t signal that you automatically hate the country and you wish death to those who live there.

To each his own. My flag hangs on the back porch. Nobody sees it but us. For those who just don’t understand, the flag stands for our nation and the shared history, pride, principles, and commitment of its people. When we properly display this powerful symbol, we signal our respect for everything it represents.

I know what the flag represents and why people want to display it, I just think some people take it a little too seriously regarding the folding and state of the flag, it’s not your fault if the weather makes it a little dirty.

I have an all-weather flag. It doesn’t get dirty. When one wears out it’s taken to an American Legion to be properly disposed of. My father fought in WWII and participated in D-Day. He also flew the flag and taught us respect and honor for the US flag.

Here’s some reading you might enjoy as a tie-in to Memorial Day.

Yeah there’s something in the school textbooks about the flag code, the thing is some overtly patriotic Americans don’t even know how the flag code works and just immediately assume the American flag is supposed to be higher than everything else. My High School is shape like a giant S where one bend is the front courtyard and one bend is the back, in the center of each courtyard there are two flagpoles that fly the American and Texas flags

When we hosted a German exchange student she said the one thing that struck her as odd was how so many people flew the US flag at their homes. She said they don’t do that in Germany. I told her they used to but the two wars there destroyed all of the things people took pride in about their nation. I said we haven’t experienced that sort of thing here in the US and pride still remains in flying the flag. Different cultures.

I also have a copy of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution hanging on a wall.

One of my close friend’s families took in a foreign exchange student also from Germany, I attempted to interact with him but he seemed pretty quiet and all I ever saw him doing while at this friend’s house was play with his Remote control toys, he did play a short game of Dungeons and Dragons with us earlier and the year though, but that was the most he ever interacted with me, it wasn’t a language barrier as he was a very fluent English speaker, he was just a quiet type, he’ll be going home once school ends next week.
