Empire of The Sun with a teenage Christian Bale is one I really like. When I watched it the first time, I noticed the screenplay was based on a novel written by JG Ballard. I was really surprised by this because JG Ballard was a science ficture writer that wrote some very twisted sci-fi (plus he wrote some very twisted regular fiction too). An example of how twisted is one of his books is Crash which is about people who are sexually aroused by car crashes.

Anyway, given his body of work, his involvement in Empire of the Sun surprised me. After I did some reading, I found out that Empire is an autobiographical story and that Ballard based the Christian Bale character on his own experience. JG Ballard was held in a camp in hong Kong by the Japanese during WWII when he was a kid like the Christian Bale character.

Only seen it once, close to when it came. Then i thought it was OK, no more. Well done, like all his movies. Its possible i would like it more now when i'm older. I felt the same with Amistad and Munich. Also The Post. The only ones i actually disliked was Hook and Always. Havent seen The Terminal. Is it Good??
